Another MC owner departing. Thanks everyone.

This evening, I saw my MC drive away from my house for the last time.

What a fantastic car this has been. What a fabulous forum this is. It's with mixed feelings that I say goodbye.

I got to MC ownership after buying a 3.0Si because I believed the hype that the Si is the best value - believe me, the Si is good - the M is very special and if my experience is anything to go by - not expensive to own.

I owned my MC for almost 4 years. Previously owned by forum member Senwar, I got the car at just over 2 years old with just over 13K on the clock.

I've now sold it with over 30000 miles added and what fantastic miles they have been.

The only blot on its outstanding reliability being the need to replace rear springs which I did as a result of a pre-sale inspection as a goodwill gesture so that whoever it went to got a perfect car. I hadn't even noticed they had broken!!!

I usually get bored with cars after a couple of years but not this one. I always said there is nothing to replace it and I haven't replaced it with anything.

The reason for the sale is that life moves on and other priorities come along. I wanted the funds to support these but I wouldn't have been sad if the car wouldn't have sold.

I think the car has gone to a really worthy owner (hi Steve) and the deal was struck at a level neither of us was happy with which is always the level where the best deals are struck.

Since listing the car, a day didn't go by without an email or a phone call enquiring about the car but Steve was the first to view it and he agreed it is now hard to find a good example of these iconic classics.

The car has been fantastic but I want to thank everyone here who has added to the ownership experience.

To anyone thinking of buying an iconic MC or even a downmarket paupers Roadster (OK, that's the last time I say a bad thing about them) - do it - you will be buying pleasure on wheels that's better than sex with my wife or even my next door neighbours wife.

One final comment about dealer service. Williams BMW - much improved and they try hard. Batemans - truly outstanding service and good value. Sytner BMW and Elms Cambridge - thanks for selling me 2 great cars for not a lot of money. Bowkers - I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Never in the world of back street cowboys have a met a load of shisters like Bowkers and you will never ever see a penny out of me - ever!!!!

Goodbye

All the best and stick around...looks like a Nice M C u had, even if u did have a go at Roadsters, lol (and very droll, haha)

Sad day :(

But great 'farewell' - stick around

...and on the bright side, at least you're still having sex with your wife and your neighbour's wife, so you have that to fall back on. Hell, you may even get the two of them together and it *might* be better than the ///M (though it wouldn't be better than an ///MR :poke: )

Great write up, what are you moving on to?

A new woman has moved in 3 doors down and she looks OK but as my dad used to say, never judge a book by its cover. we'll see.

As for cars - I really don't know. Some of you say this would be sad for you but I've had great years out of the car and I couldn't have wished for a better next owner.

I've got enough cars available to me to fill the need for personal transport and I'm lucky enough to have some fun cars but none of them could fill the space the MC has left.

As well as a very genuine thank you for all the support this forum has given, the purpose of the goodbye post is to share my experience so that anyone who is trying to justify to themselves the purchase of one of these cars just goes and buys one.

I've been lucky enough to enjoy some special cars over the years but the MC is a real sleeper. It has the looks of a concept car but can be serviced by a mass market garage. It can be quick, it can be surprisingly frugal for the performance available. Every journey was an event and it felt as special today as the day I bought it.

Some of this sounds like I shouldn't have sold it but I'm glad I've sold on a mental high.

I can't think of anything that will replace the MC that is on the road today. An MR is tempting but that would be like sleeping with the wife's sister just after getting divorced but if she plays her cards right, she might get lucky one day!
