Another iPhone Question - Sorry!!

Hi Guys,

Currently my setup in the Z4 is an Intravee Kit (hooked up to my 8GB nano) and the BMW factory Bluetooth connected to my Nokia 6500 (i think) and all is working great!

The time has come for an upgrade in the phone department!

I'm looking at iPhones and if it works, will be planning on keeping my 8GB ipod permanatly connected in the car and having my iPhone hooked up to the bluetooth.

My concerns are that the factory bluetooth was fitted in 2003. My old Samsung G600 connected to it and could make calls etc, but i had no phone directory and it drove me mad!!

I am guessing that if i can get an iPhone to even pair up at all, i will not be able to use the phonebook feature etc, is the right or can someone brighten my day :)

Many Thanks guys, sorry if this has been done to death. I did search but it was a little confusing.

Anyone using an iphone with the factory 2003 bluetooth?

Officially Iphone compatibility came with the 13th generation ULF (Bluetooth module) but I believe it works with the 12th too.

If your car is a 2003 it's likely to be about 4/5th generation or before but you'd need the part number to be sure of this.

I found a 12th generation on ebay for about £150 but was quite lucky, you might be able to do the same, then sell yours on for £100ish. It's an easy swap once you've got the carpet up.

Well ive just done this with my 2003 car successfully :) V32 BMW Software, Iphone 3G 3.0. The only problem that i had was it failing to pair until i deleted my old pairing (should allow upto 4). Once i deleted the old one by holding the button down for 10secs, all worked perfectly - including the phonebook sync :D

Very good news indeed.. makes me wonder if your car has a newer ULF, as the calling side of things working doesn't surprise me, but having a phonebook sync does.

btw.. v32 is the Nav only, doesn't affect the bluetooth. I assume you upgraded this? otherwise it's further proof the previous owner was savvy..

Either way good stuff.. let's hope n1k's is the same.

I upgraded the Nav :)

Im pretty sure the Bluetooth etc. was dealer fit as my car was Ex-Demo with 99% of the optional extras fitted :) Is there any way to tell the ULF version easily? Ill happily rip apart the centre console in the aid of research :D

Far as I know you can only tell by looking up the part no written on the side of it. youd have to remove the boot carpet not the centre console though...

yep... left hand side, first module from the left i think.

google the part number and it will tell you the revision.
