Another example of BMW shoddy design/build quality..

I remember a post a while back (Can't remember if it was this forum or Z-post) concerning all the rattles in the E-85/86. It was determined by everyone that it was because Z4's were built by hicks in the colonies. I feel a bit vindicated now.

We're a mixed bag. My Magna was built here and is solid, but my Aussie Ford's rattled and squeaked though were reliable (frankly, so did my German built Focus ST).

The e89 are built in Germany now, although my dealer still insists they come from the US!!!

I wonder if the rattles are temperature related, cos sometimes mine go away, other times you cant miss them. Although it must be very small temp changes as I cant say it only happens in the cold/hot etc....

I would keep an eye on the alloy wheels, Bought my Z at 3 years old.
Having had the wheels off a few times, was quite suprised at the 'thread corrosion' and the paint lifting on the inside of the wheel, to the point that once the winters over i will be respraying the insides.
This compared to the 10 year old mgtf (previous car) alloys which were spotless.
Good tip to get the wheels off if they are stuck on, pour kettle of hot water over wheel first.

How can one explain such an excellent reliability rating?

I have a suspicion that taking cars back to dealers constantly can contribute too... I have a feeling that this broken clip under the hoops could well be a dealer 'fix'.. perhaps done when the car was in for various rattles to be fixed.. a case of 'screw everything down tight' without thought. All this was sorted under warranty, and yes possibly the amount of money involved has made me OCD about it all. Unless I get a sudden windfall, this car is a keeper and I will fix every fault (under the free insured warranty BMW provided because of the issues I've had, along with the credit I got, all of which was the least they could do IMHO). Can't help but wonder what next...
had the same with a 1series convertible got it new and after 18 visits to dealer with multitude of rattles, paint issues, etc got so fed up with it i sold it for a huge loss but i had grown to hate the car!
