This car has got my head spinning. Yesterday removing the console airbag module made voltage go up from 10v to 12v on the k bus comb.Morning.
My theory is based on you saying there is no airbag light on initially switching the ignition on. It should do a self test for a few seconds. This suggests to me it has been blanked off. If so, and no codes showing, it implies that no signal is coming from the SIM85 through the K-Bus, pointing to a failure within that module. As I said, the satellite modules report back through the SIM85, they are not connected to the K-Bus themselves. Therefore, a failure in the SIM85 K-Bus output will prevent any communication from the satellite modules too. You have already determined that the errant 10v is produced from the SIM85.
The lack of advisories could simply be an MOT Inspector not checking that out. I've seen that several times when i've found the light taped over.
As I said before, a problem in one part of the K-Bus can cause other things to fail.
As an example, I found an airbag light taped over. On investigation I found the K-Bus to the SIM85 was cut and taped up. When I reconnected it, the wipers, radio and roof stopped working. Fitted a new SIM85 and coded it in: everything back to normal.
Hence my suggestion that you unplug the SIM85 and see if other stuff starts working again.
Today I thought I'd reconnect it to measure any changes. Reconnected and k bus module sitting at 12v. Have reconnected nearside satellite module and k bus comb still sitting at 12v.
Offside satellite module has 2 wires hanging out of the connector. Brown one and a brown/red. Don't suppose you know which pin they go to please.
At the moment having the centre air bag module connected or disconnected makes no difference to the reading on the k bus comb. 12v
Not siree if it just needed more time to dry out after cleaning.
Attached are the lights that come on when ignition is on (left) and also with ignition running (right). Bottom left is a bulb that just flagged up.
That sledge hammer is looking really tempting right now
