Just been to look at another ///M, and guess what?

Running in service not done until 2,500 miles :x

I would have bought it had this been right :x

I've had more offers on my MC since I took it off sale, than I did when it was up for sale. Don't want to sell it at the moment though :headbang:

The only "good" thing about that is, that if someone is not caring enough to get the servicing done on time, would they care enough to warm the engine first before using the car properly which is something you can't tell by looking at the car ...

Yeah, I went to see a 3.0i which was supposed to have "full" service history. Apart from the 30k miles between the second and third service, that was true. Also, the air filter looked black even though it had been done 1000 miles ago. Glad I walked away as found a minter a couple of weeks later. No point getting a rough one, or one that hasnt been taken care of. One will turn up sooner or later. Its easier said than done waiting though, especially once the new car itch has started!! :P

would this not be reflected in the length of the sevice intervals? service intervals (miles) always seems a good place to tell what kind of life the car has been subject to.

Popped into another Main Dealer just to get a comparison.

Checked the service history and again very borderline.

1200 mile service fine
21000 Inspection 1
42000 Inspection 1
49000 Inspection 2

There is also a period of 26 months between 1 service, so again warranty may not pay out.

Also surprised an ///M could do 19k without a service.

It won't, but this is unfortunately the way most people are with cars. It's one of the reasons we ended up with a staff lease deal on the A1 in the end, because it seems 90% of people don't service their cars properly! Even when you think you've found an enthusiast, it's often not serviced properly.

I said to the dealer i'm surprised it was , must have been driven slowly if it's based on fuel usage which is my understanding.

It still must be nigh on impossible in an M, I'd have thought. That's the trouble with the flexible servicing I guess - You can never guarantee that it was serviced correctly, in terms of mileage. More often than not though, they've missed the time limit anyway; so you can at least rid some of them that way.

Buying a car is a tiring business, but you'll eventually find a good'un! Don't give up hope yet.

I am at 20k and 4 years, and have had running in at 1050 or so and two oil services. Insp 1 will be next year when it is 5 years old or about 24k whichever is first, and also had two brake fluid changes.

My counter is up the creak though as the dealer reset it when I just wanted the oil service but the paperwork is correct.

The way used values are going I predict your going to see more and more of this as time progresses. Servicing costs don't match the asking prices. Strangely though it could make the good ones worth more and so have a positive effect on values.
