Another DISA valve topic.

Used Shipkillers how to guide to remove my DISA today. Well, the pictures speak for themselves.

Cars done 99,997 miles and has probably never been looked at before. Pin was very loose and the flap has damage and wouldn't close properly due to the build up of grease and all sorts.

Has anyone used a repair kit, rather than buying a new one? Not sure on the price of new ones, but the repair kit on ebay is £49.99, but unsure whether it's any good.

Mine was in a similar condition to yours when I checked it / changed it yesterday (see http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=76984). I used the repair kit from eBay that's listed at £49.99 but also has a "Make an Offer" button. I offered £46.00 which was accepted and the goods were sent out very quickly. The kit was pretty good and easy to install.

Cheers, DLH. Does the repair kit come with a plastic or aluminium flap? Not sure of the benefits of the metal ones tbh.

Also, how do you get the existing flap our of the housing?

Sorry for the questions, I just don't want to mess it up.and break the whole lot

If you PM me with an email address that I can use to send an email with an attachment then I'll send you a very detailed doc with instructions on how to carry out the repair.

You'll be OK I'm sure - the only slightly fiddly bit is getting the spring washer off and when the new bits are installed getting the new spring washer on (after several failures with a pair of pliers, I used a small socket for that and it solved the issue!)

Good luck!

Thanks for the guide mate. Just had a read through and did the vacuum test first, but it appears mine isn't functioning correctly.

I closed the flap fully, put my thumb over the hole, then pressed the flap open with my finger. Is this correct?

The flap on mine just opened all the way without any hint of something holding it back.

Close the flap, thumb firmly over the hole, just let the flap go (don't physically push / press it open), should open a little but not all the way.

Ah ok, I must have been doing it wrong first time. Just went and checked again and it only opens a small amount.

Just ordered that repair kit from i6 automotive.

Thanks for all the help and advice!

Can anyone help.
I've fitted the kit, when I close the flap by hand, and then let go, the flap only opens about 1/3. Should it open fully ?

I've tried loosening the long bolt but doesn't make any difference.

Did anyone else notice this ?

Thanks

The flap should only open a small amount apparently. It'll only open all the way when it's installed and running, surely?

It should open fully, you probably have vacuum pot leak. I had to buy new unit.

Are you sure this is correct? Mine doesn't have any tension on it at all and it appears DLH's doesn't either. I also can't see anything rotating where he says the gear bit is.

As I know, flap should be fully open or fully closed.
When you start engine, it's closed and when revving over 4500 rpm it opens.
When I turn off engine, it makes suction noise, DISA valve opens (?)

My new one was just like in video.
