Another dash cam installation

This time in the Audi, that must be the simplest installation possible with the fusebox at the bottom of the a-pillar at the side of the dashboard. No wires needed cutting, just added a new circuit with one of these that I had still laying about.

To push the cable away, this set comes in very handy.

The camera is the Mini 0805. I have just put in a 32 Gb micro SD, and have not done anything else. Must read the manual to see if I need to set anything up but ran out of time. If anyone has any pointers on what needs setting, that would be great.

The Audi must be the easiest car to install something like this though, plug and play.

Funny enough i fitted my old mini 0803 into my TT this weekend!

I got a 12v to twin usb adaptor though and wired it to the piggyback fuse... So have a spare usb socket in my fusebox now!

The only setting i changed on my unit was to set it as hardwired so it comes on and off with the car. And set the motion detection on... So a large knock would trigger it to record (say of parked)

Tried the lane departure setting but it didnt work at all well and just went off at roundabouts!!

It comes on and off with the car at the moment, so perhaps that is a standard setting?

Will check the motion sensor thingy, just not got around to taking it out of the car.

I assume that the SD car did not need formatting?

Sorry - lazy installation :D

Looking good pvr

My camera comes on at ignition 1 which suits me fine.
There is a setting in the menu for the motion detector.
I would recommend formating the SD card via the menu to save any issues

Nice wee write up there, my dads been going on about getting one but why are the pictures upside down lol

Mac posts them upside down.

Let me see if I can get them changed - if I post from a windows PC, they come up ok ….

Audi mirror is not as easy as a BMW one though, challenging to get it behind there.

Is it possible to switch it off? I would never want that on and see no benefit at all.

The sound can be switched off... Mine just beeps on startup.

I also used black electrical tape over the writing at the front... So its not visible from outside.. And on my model needed a layer of tape on the dock to stop it wobbling.

On my TT i wired it up the a pillar, then into the light sensor and out the side so the wiring is less visible... Although as mine has a dark sunband also made the mistake of positioning too high first time!

I've got one in the 1 Series, haven't swapped it over to the Z3. Only nuisance with mine is as its plugged into a power outlet it comes on as soon as the door is opened or bonnet or hatch which is great for filming me washing the car :)

Also unsure with long term reliability with these as mine has frozen a few times with a continuous chime and couldn't be powered off. Eventually after an hour so it powered off
