Another Airbag Light Saga - Error Code 9886

So - the airbag module looks in good condition with no obvious signs of water issues. I did though a couple of years ago take the seats out to dry everything out and there was loads of water - not up to the level of the airbag module - but carpets were sodden. Maybe that caused it.

I removed passenger seat again. It is still completely dry down there - but when I removed the connector to the airbag module I could see some signs of corrosion on the plastic part (hard to see into the until itself - guess I need to remove carpet for that which I think requires me to remove the plastic part behind seat. So I think next step is to clean up connections on the airbag module, reconnect battery and try again. Let's hope the weather stays dry!

It doesn't seem like the connections from door through A pillar are a likely culprit given that but I'll check those also.

I have been reading up on the module itself. Seems like some versions are unobtainable? Hopefully not for these as it would be a crying shame to have to lose the car due to something that is non mandatory anyway. The coding also sounds like I would need some new equipment.

The code is 6928571 - which shows up on RealOEM with the following equivalents. I presume best way to source is to see if someone on here has one? I know I have managed to get a couple of other modules from yourself @enuff_zed in the past.

Oh dear. Rarest batch! Good luck.
I fitted one to a car yesterday, leaving me only one. That is promised to another forum member but he needs to decide if a trip all the way from Wales to Norfolk is worth the risk.

Yikes - that is what I feared. I read somewhere on here that there was one batch that was difficult to get. I will try to clean connectors and cross fingers.

Please put me on the wait list and let me know if the other forum member decides against travelling to Norfolk.

I presume there is no alternate way to pass MOT and if I cannot get it sorted then it is tickets for the car?

There are methods of passing. Allegedly.
I’m sure I have no idea what those may be and even if you were to DM me I doubt I could explain them 😉😉😉

It will be your door membranes

And the route the water takes is right past the modules
Possibly. When I lifted carpet a couple of years ago and removed a lot of water (litres), I tried to test by pouring water down the side of window and it didn't seem to cause any leak. At the time it was wet up the front bulkhead so I thought it might be coming from there.

I guess it would be no harm to check those anyway. Assuming I can get the airbag module sorted.

Having taken off airbag module there has obviously been some water affecting it. I cleaned contacts and for good measure took the board out and gave it a gentle clean. All back together. Connected battery. Put seat back in and hey presto - same problem.

I guess a replacement is needed. I assume no-one can repair them.

The car is 2003 but it has only done 50,000 miles and is clean as a whistle underneath (body a bit ragged) - so to scrap based on that would be a complete travesty. I can see this happening more and more though. Our other car has an all electronic dash - in a few years when that goes as it undoubtedly will we may be faced with a similar situation.
