Off to Ireland for a long weekend 2-5 August. Flying Ryan air to Kerry. Picking up a hire car. plan on doing the ring of Kerry. I understand that clockwise will not get you stuck behind a tour bus. Then to Cork (Blarney castle), And the cliffs of Moher. Hopefully I will be celebrating. Or possibly a diversion. As I get the news about my biopsy results as to whether I have cancer on the 22nd of this month.

As to the diversion, my thoughts are with you. So many friends have been diagnosed recently. I thought perhaps it was just me reaching my mid century year that meant it was to be expected, but upon reflection my first friend was diagnosed when I was in my mid twenties.

Believe it or not. We have not had any issues with Ryan air. We have flown with them 6-7 times. Most of the complaints I have seen on the net. Are from those that complain because they still think they should be treated as if they just bought a full price ticket on Lufthansa. If one pays the equivalent of a bus fare. Then you get a bus.
Don't push the packing limit, Pay the 70 Euro fee to add a big bag. Sit back, Get to where you want to go CHEAPLY. And when you just went round trip to the Canary Islands from Stansted for about the cost of a tank of petrol. What's to complain about.
Thanks for the thoughts about the cancer. My father died in his mid 70's from cancer. I'm 57 now. I sometimes feel like I'm on borrowed time. It can get rather depressing. It's also one of the reasons I want to buy a Lotus 7 type car as eluded to in other posts by me. In the USA 7's have until recently been rarer than an honest politician. It has been a car I have desired to own since I first saw one in a magazine decades ago. Used 7's in the states go for about 5K or more than in Britain. First I need to put lipstick on the Zed and sell it.
I'll post an update when I know my fate.
