Annual Mileage

Am curious as to what sort of annual mileage you're paying for and actually doing.

My Z4 has been insured for 4k miles this year, mostly to keep costs down (it'll be bigger next year). Two trips to Scotland would shred this.

Obviously some of you are daily drivers, others are fair weather pilots.

So, what are you laying down?

7800 miles a year, if I average it. I split miles between it and a 4 door people mover. I insure it for 8000 miles per year, full coverage.

Mine have only ever been fun cars run alongside a daily driver and I've averaged about 4,000 miles a year since I bought my first one in 2014.

I declare 5,000 a year for insurance to allow a bit of leeway. As I understand it insurance can sometimes cost more for some reason if you declare a really low mileage.

Sad to say last year I managed 1,926 miles in the M. 2 kids under 3 and 2 dogs render it pretty much a me only car and don't like taking it on short journeys. Think its insured for 4k just in case a euro trip pops up!

Mainly take it to meets and the odd longer trip. Like it to too much to sell.

First one was insured for 6k/year and I only came near that in one year of ownership. It was the third car, and we didn't do that many runs/weekends away in it. I had other cars I'd pick for motorway work ahead of it too.

Within 6 months of having the 3.0si I had to ring up and bump the insurance to 10k/year as it was being used more and more. Cruise control, six gears and a bucket of torque (compared to the 2.5i at least) means I'm happy to do proper miles in it. Done a couple of runs down to Heathrow already this year, and a couple of runs up to Scotland. Plus fun miles in Wales and the north of England. Means its getting used!

(Amusingly it's also the most fuel efficient car we own currently. On paper the Focus should beat it but long term averages suggest otherwise.)

As the car comes out on hi days and holidays the milage is low so I insure for 3,000 per annum Based on the 17 years age with an average of 1850 miles per annum I should probably insure for less milage.
