Angry at the Z4

Was about to go for a drive yesterday and it would not start and every possible warning light flash. :sos:  Had to call a tow truck and is now at the shop. And two days ago the handel to the glove compartment fell off... :headbang: Seriously think about trading it in for a mini cooper s next week...

All sounds rather frustrating.

I can however tell you from my own personal experience ( my daughter owns one) that the Mini Cooper S suffers from far more problems and faults than the Z4 ever does.

Frustrating for sure, but remember all cars can suffer from problems, from minor to serious. I'd see what is wrong with car before making any rash decisions.

I did the opposite trade a few years ago from Cooper-S (supercharged) to Z4, just for a change (got bored with the mini after two years). I kept the Z4 for a year but had to trade it for something with more room. The only problem with the Z4 was the need to have the parking brake adjustment repaired, the Mini had a few minor problems with creeks and the like but neither of them had anything that i would consider serious issues. Oh apart fron the mini's thirst! Incidentally I have just bought my second Z4 and did consider a mini too but at the end of the day the Z4 is a classier piece of kit!

Got the car back today, the gas gauge did not work, was out of juice, lucky for me it it stopped right outside my house  The dealer switched the gas tank like 1 1/2 weeks ago and forgot to connect the gas gauge.. he was kinda embarrassed.. Like me now  I'm still thinking about the changing, could use some more space and it uses less fuel (I think) and I don't have that dough right now=P Student life ain't easy :P

I went from the Mini Cooper S to the Z4 3.0. BTW - my glovebox thing dropped off as well and I still haven't fixed it. I am able to open it so I'll get it done at the next service. I had some problems with the Mini too (boot lock problems) and while it is a really nice car it just doesn't compare to the Z4 in my opinion. The Z4 feels much more solid and has the premium car feel which I felt was missing on the Mini bearing in mind it isn't a cheap car once you add the options. Anyway just my 0.02, good luck with your car!

I hope you get this all sorted out.

But if you start down the road of getting rid of a car because it has had some problems, then you will not be keeping a car for more than a year at any one time....
All cars have problems. from the $10,000 car to the $200,000 car.

ANYTHING built by man will BREAK....

I had an R56 Cooper S for four months and traded it in for the Z. The new Minis that came out with the turbo in 2006 do have a few problems (more than i have experianced in the Z). The biggest worry with the Cooper S was that people were having problems with engine rattles from cold, I actually had this a few times with mine which was very worrying for long term engine life. Some people had their engine swappend and others were sending back to the dealer on new ones that had this problem.
I also found lots of torque steer and traction problems in trying to get the power down which i have never had with the Z which is just a much nicer drive IMO. The mini does have lots of low down torque but that's half the problem with the torque steer etc.

I actually looked at a Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works a few weeks ago but was offered such a bad trade in it wasn't worth it. I think you may be shocked at how much Z's are dropping in price at the moment.

I'm looking at one of those this weekend. :driving:

I have a friend of mine who has a Cooper S which I drove about 3 weeks ago. Fun car to drive but the torque steer I could not live with. I guess at the end of the day I just really don't like front wheel drive cars....

I had a rental car a number of years ago that was front wheel drive. It was raining and I was parked on a fairly steep hill and could not get out of the parking space because of front wheel spin....

My point precisely, the toque steer is made worse by the low down torque in the turbo car, I think the old supercharged version was a bit more progressive with a gradual build up of torque rather than the new one. If you are looking at new FWD more economical performance cars i would be looking at the Scirocco. The reviews I have read say it's every bit as fast as the JC Works S but without the torque steer.

Thanks for all the replys, went to a dealer today and he did not want to give me anything basically, not even a trade in with a MCS, he offered a lot less than what we paid for it about 2/3 months ago, plus we have put more money in to the car in services and parts mot and such... So it looks like it's staying... Kind of mixed emotions, kinda want a mini but I have to say driving it yesterday I thought that I could never or should never sell this car, my dad vigorously tryed to talk me out of it these past couple of days, so if I need a 5 seater I should probably just steal his allroad :D

A story from the other day:

The car is fun during winter aswell on parkinglots, except two days ago. I have had my licens for about 2 weeks now and went to a quite deserted parking lot with lots of snow and ice fo r my first drifitng (if you can call it that:P) experience... Was alone for about 30 minutes when a couple of other unknown drivers showed up in old rusty bmw's mercs and vovlo 240's, had some fun with them and guess who pulls up when im executing a quite perfect (no to brag) drift, you probably guessed it the police, I desperately look for a way out, but the volvo v70 police car is blocking the only legal way to exit, he turns on the lights and I stop the car... after sweating and swearing at my self for 10 minutes (felt like 1 hour) he comes up to me and says that it is an open parking lot so it is not as dangerous as the streets (said it about 5 times), hinting that if I ever where to try something like that again do not do it on the streets, he leaves me with a warning and kindly ask if those other people are my friends, I politely answer NO, and get in my car driving of very carefully. Been driving like a granny the last couple of days with a warning in the police register, still it was a HELL of a lot of fun while it lasted

BMW_Z4_Norway, I was thinking of changing it for an Evolution VIII, but to be honest I´m not sure if a turbocharged engine with 100 000 km is a good idea.... :|
