Angel eyes to DRL

Wanting to wire up my angel eyes to an ignition feed so they become DRL. Anyone have any a suggestion as my auto sparkie is even having trouble without getting all sorts of error codes or other lights staying on permanently.
Cheers in advance.

As Maniac says Angel eyes are always on. Have you never noticed this on other BMWs with them? You can also set DRL for the Xenons from the dash.

But is its possible that you are in New Zeland? If so, not sure how they are set up sorry.

Try this:

Use the roller switch (best way I can describe it) on the indicator stalk until you get an image of a key.
Then scroll through the options until you see an image of headlights and the sun. Click in to it and I think it says 'ok'.
They'll be on then.

:)

OK cheers guys, will check it out and yes, I am in NZ have have a 2009 E89 I have recently imported it from Japan, (like many used vehicles here). Will let you know the outcome. :)

Update, as I suspected, Japanese spec Z4's it seems, (well, mine anyways), do not have the option to turn on/off DRL thru the iDrive, so will just have to persevere with finding an ignition feed that doesn't upset any codes.

I'm looking to fit the CREE LED bulbs, anyone gone down this route, reviews say bulbs are difficult to fit, I prefer the whiter light on the DRLs?

The owners manual gives you the impression it is straightforward.

I have upgraded to LEDs in my angel eyes - used the lux v4 units after trying a few other options (first I tried 'super white' h4 bulbs... rubbish too dim, not very white. Then I got some cheaper LED units from eBay.... again not impressed).

The Lux v4 is bright enough & can be set to any colour (blue through white in about 10 steps).

Fiddly to fit - needs patience & thin fingers. Access is tight & it is a ballache to get them in - but managed it in about 20 minutes altogether.

I used these and they are OK-ish, easy enough to fit but they come with heaps or wiring. They are a bit dim tho, (very 'white'), especially on a sunny day which we have in abundance here in NZ at the mo.

Has anyone compared the Lux V4's with the 80W ones on iJDMtoy.com?

Yep - those are the ones I bought also.

A bit of a difficult fit, even tighter to get in that the lux units.

I know they say 80w, but take that with a pinch of salt... I think they just makes those numbers up for marketing reasons :)

I only had mine fitted to the car for 1 day. Brightness during the day was considerably weaker than the stock halogens (although they were definitely white), at night I would say they were ok.

The lux appears to be maybe 2 to 3 times brighter during the day, and better at night as well - it is a very noticeable difference.

When I was trying different options, I was beginning to think that nothing would be right - then as soon as the lux bulbs went in it was a sigh of relief.

I would not say that they are amazing, but definitely good enough to use & not think they are rubbish.

Quick update, bought these;

Damn good price, arrived really quick from California to Wellington NZ and they are bloody marvelous. Much brighter than the aliexpress ones and am pleased with the result. Still not as bright as the latest factory spec BMWs around but a good compromise.

Pics?

Well I've bitten the bullet after much procrastination and research and got a pair of LUX H8 V5's.

Won't be able to fit for a few days, and am off to the factory on Friday to see my other car being built.

Fingers crossed it is dry on Sunday.

Will do my best to take some photos as well.

We've had the V3's on our e89 for almost three years now, much cleaner white DRLs. Looking forward to your pics of the V5's.

Well, once we had some clear skies later this morning, I went about installing some of the most expensive light bulbs I have ever come across.

Their cost and fragility, added to my trepidation.

Once I'd located the correct housing and disconnected the plug confirming this was the Halo bulb I was on my way.

The round twist cap covering the halo bulb housing is the inside of the two bulb access points and is almost flat/horizontal, not the vertical one on the outside, that the Xenons one.

The first bulb I unclipped the connector and the released the bulb from its housing, turning the bulb in the direction of the middle of the car/radiator, not towards the outside/wings. On the second bulb I left the connector on and twisted it free.

Fitting the LED bulbs, I attached them both to the connector, that at least meant I wasn't going to drop the bulb, getting it into the holder was really fiddly, slowly, slowly I teased it in holding onto the colour setting box.

With the new bulbs securely in, I then experimented with the colour settings.

For the moment I'm running 7800K, but may drop it down to 6900K. I did get all of the colour settings wrong initially, misread and clicked the rocker switches wrongly.

The colour setting box and cables tuck into the cavity behind the bulbs so all is OK.

I've taken some photos on my phone. So once I've got those up in photobucket and tidied them up, I'll post up the pics.

After a bit of faffing here's the pics.

Clearly my phone is rubbish in the dark.

What power are these? I got some bulbs off eBay that are ok but not as bright as the new led halos. So you think these are as bright as the new ones?

They are bright, but would like to see them side by side with a new car.

This is the quote from LUX.

"Brightness: The LUX H8 V5 angel eyes product a total of 2400 lumen which is halogen equivalent of 120 watts of light! Since the LUX H8 V5’s do not dim they stay at this brightness all the time. Many other brands out there do not operate at full power so they will dim and will reduce their output by 50% or more at times. The stock bulbs are rated at 35 watt each, 70 watt total. Our LUX H8 V5 lights are 1.7 times brighter than the stock bulbs in the daytime and about 3x as bright when the headlights are on. All LUX Products come with our guaranteed customer support and a 1-year warranty."

I have to say I'm happy with the bulbs.
