Angel eye - side bulb wire

Hey all,

Thought I'd make the most of today and fit angel eyes to my car. I've cut the headlights open but would like to know how to wire them in, can I simply cut the sidelight wire and connect the two bare wiring or do I need to solder?

Either will work but not sure which is 'best'. I soldered mine to the sidelight bulb housing, where the sidelight wires enter the housing (if that makes sense). I then put electrical tape around the solders and they were fine ever since.

That way the sidelight still works but couldn't be seen as the halos were so bright! No cutting wires either.

always wondered about these, is it not an absolute ballache if they die/have sections of led die off to have to go through splitting the lights open to replace them?

i take it the cars with these by default the headlight units are just held together by clamps rather than glued shut

Some on here have had to re-open them. I de-gingered before the halos arrived so I re-glued and fitted them de-gingered in the knowledge I had to do it all again wen the LEDs arrived! Too impatient!

I think the bmws that come with LED angel eyes by default use a changeable led bulb rather than the led circles retrofitted to our cars.

I ran a separate feed from the under bonnet fuse box to a control unit, from an ignition live to the A/E's and neutral to an earth in the light unit. A separate feed from the sidelight back to the controller rigged all into the fuse box.

Ok so it's more than most would do but I retain full dimmed and sidelight on / off. AE's now come in as drl's and of course go out when side or dipped are illuminated so they don't glare at night.

Could have done all sorts of tricky stuff too with dim each side on a turn, flash in accident or in horn press, etc. but kept it simple.

6 years ago I did what I think you're doing and just rerouted the internal wiring to drive A/E instead of sidelights. Has some downsides though as new LED AE are a bit too bright to run at night and give off a lot of glare.

Yeah that's the one. Where the wires enter, the wire was exposed and I just soldered the angel eyes on the relevant side. It seemed the easiest way and was quick and easy. I just turned mine on as you would the sidelights.

The above, more involved method would obviously be better but I don't have the skills/knowledge so I went the easy route and it worked fine.
