"Angel-eye" bulb replacement

Are these powered by just a standard bulb? Anyone know the fitment and how you get to it to replace it?
 
It is just a bayonette style 501 bulb - I had mine out to swap it over with some LED ones - and it looks pants and didnt light up the full ring.

PIAA makes an LED replacement for the standard bulb that's brighter and whiter as well.

I got some eBay canbus ones - i used regular leds bulbs at first but it tripped the bulb sensor.

I may try some PIAA ones if they light up the ring fully.

Personally, after seeing the new 3 Series white halo's, I prefer the yellow coloured ones because when the HID lights are on, the Halo's can't be seen as it blends with the light! The lower light, yellow colour looks kind of meaner! :wink:

Wow those are pricey! Still quite tempted though.

I would actually prefer white angel eyes - especially as the E85 it only has one ring and the outer ring around the dipped being just the reflection from the Xenon - so i end up having the inner ring "yellow" and the outer ring beign white!
 
Ive tried maybe 5 different combos of normal and LED 501's to try and get better looking eyes. And as everyone has found nothing works as good as the stock bulbs as yet. Think Im going to try some higher wattage bulbs next.
