Android vs Apple

My conclusion, to all of these thread on Z4-forum is that most people on here love to tinker with things... Apple isnt for you, android/windows allows you to do so much easier. If you want a good ecosystem that just works and enables you to do what you do best without worry then it is for you, and that you dont mind being in a closed system.

But thats where Apples system works by being in control they make sure that everything works without issue instead of third parties making poor aps that crash or dont work properly. The closed system frustrates many.... most on here.
My opinion as well...

Back in the '80s it was Spectrum or Commodore, then Atari ST vs. Amiga, PC against Mac, and now it filters down to mobile devices. I think I'll refrain from making any comments, wait for five years or so, and let history judge the case.
you don't have 5 years - world ends tomorrow :poke:

And bing never bought his M

Once he is driving up north in his 3.0 and the fireball hits, he will have a quick moment what it would have been like owning an M ...

I'm a software developer and just so happened to volunteer myself to develop an in house app for our company on android, the iPhone one was outsourced, I'm loving the OS!

I have to say that so far, I have not been confronted with a single thing that Android can't do that iOS can.

When people say 'I like Apple because it's easy to use', then that's fair enough, but to also say that's their only reason to stay with Apple and not try Android, I don't agree with. What you mean by Apple is easy to use, is that the UI is simple to navigate, nothing more.

File transfer, interconnectivity, compatibility, even texting (swype for instance) are all easier on android.

I mean you can even make Android LOOK like iOS (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.theme.iphone&hl=en) it doesn't get much closer than that (except using a custom ROM admittedly).

The gripe I have with Apple (he says, holding his iPhone 4S), is that they cost so damn much, for what is comparatively little on the hardware side.

I'm not even going to mention the abomination that is the iPhone 5. It looks more like a TV remote than it does a phone. I'm not joking there either, I picked up the 5 the other week instead of my TV remote...

In my opinion, I don't think people should have a right to slate either of the devices until they've tried at least 2 of each, as with Android for example, they have many manufacturers and that's where the confusion lay, it's not the OS that's bad in some cases, it's just the manufacturer of the device, such as HTC, Samsung, etc.

Had iPhone and android and android wins it for me.
Saying that I've got an ipad and a mac and my laptop is an acer with windows so quite a mixed bag.
Phone wise tho definitely android.

Erm, I have to take exception to that. Apples App Store for both iOS and MacOS include 3rd party apps, they contain bugs and are often updated. Its mathematically impossible to fully debug any reasonable sized software app. Apple got slated for passing apps recently into the iOS AppStore that had malware built in. Frankly, their quality control has gone downhill. Windows has the hourglass, mac has the bouncing ball.

The thing with computers and cameras etc is that if you are making money with them they pay for themselves so buying isnt a problem for most.

How is that different to any other tool, or any capex for a business? As a business owner you buy what represents the best value or least cost. If you've already invested in mac licenses, it makes sense to continue with mac. The same with windows. If you're retooling from scratch you buy best value/least total cost of ownership to maximise your chance of profit.

But for consumers I understand the price quibbles but then again you aren't just buying a good OS you are buying a product which has been agonised over not just in the design process, but the materials and the manufacturing process. You dont get that anywhere else.

I'll put a Dell XPS13 or Lenovo X1 carbon up against any MacBook, any day. The Lenovo Yoga is a genius piece of design. The macs are lovely too, but again, it's fit form function.

And I'm not pro windows or mac, both are tools to do a job. I've run a large business that used both. The macs were a necessary evil because some of the studio software used to produce our ads wasn't available on Windows at the time. If it was, our studio would have been on Windows systems like the rest of the business. As someone else posted, Apple needs to hurry up and catch up. They've dropped their 2S workstation from their roadmap and that's pissed off a number of content creators I know.

This debate is about as fruitless as the should I buy this car question.

Try it, what do you like? Buy it.

I have both (Android personal, Apple work). I prefer Android.

We do like to be in our tribes on here :D

This has been done to death many a time on here. I can see the merits of both. As with most things - play around with both to see which you prefer.
