Android radio install question aux?

Hi guys, I've watched some really cool android screen replacement videos on here, and was just wondering what the go is with the AUX? Mines the older CIC system, do all the android radios in the e89 have to use AUX to get the car speakers to work? Why is this? Doesn't the extra loom hook into the onboard amp?

I've done a few android installs before, but this us the first time I've come across that you have to use an AUX input to get the original speakers to run.

Or am I seeing this completely wrong?

Afaik all android head unit and all MMI boxes bar Mr 12 Volt use the aux feed..

The aux feed goes into different head units so whilst some people complain about the quality it varies…

FWIW on a 677 based head unit with the full USB/extended Bluetooth option I personally really struggled to discriminate between pure digital, usb , Bluetooth and aux..

If you’re really fussy on most higher end android units you can plug a DAC into the USB socket on the android unit then route it on either via digital or another analogue circuit

If you have the factory idrive imho the best /proven option is a mr 12 mmi box..imho

Thanks B!

Nah I am not that fussy about the audio quality, def not an audiofile here, but would have liked to have not have had to run the aux cable.

As it is, I am replacing the oem screen as its completely nuked.. Guess the heat got to it. I spend the whole day yesterday in Auckland going through the various android radios for the cic equipped e89 radios, and ended up taking the cheap ass way out. I ended up going for the Linux screen, as I figure if I do need to run any other apps, I'll use car play for that ..

The cost was half of the nearest cheapest android screen. I did heed your advice you dished out elsewhere and stayed away from the 12inch screen, and opted in for the 8", I figure the missus doesn't know the difference between 8 and 12 inch so that's good enough for me.

Had to draw the line somewhere.. Apperently this Linux screen does do Bluetooth to the original radio, but we will see when
/if it arrives..

One other question I have is this, does the screen look big once installed in the car? I noticed today there is now a replacement lcd for the oem flip up screen.. Anyone got any pics of the view from the drivers seat with the 10" screen installed?
