More than happy to help, of course, but I think you'll be surprised how much of the hard part is simply fabrication / modification... in that area I have no doubt your skills far exceed mine :-) The tablet itself remains completely in tact... whilst it's not easily accessible, you could conceivably remove it in the future.
 
Also impressed! I've an arduino upstairs waiting for a project, looking forwards to the write up - how much was the tablet/what did you use? And the screen unit bit?

That is amazing, I just love the way it uses the OEM mounting but improves upon it massively!
Is the tablet capable of tethering to a phone for live traffic/weather.....er Facebook/iplayer and z-4 forum access? Bluetooth keyboard for your passenger and you're off.

(while not driving- before someone from HR comes to crush my Jetson dreams) :D

The tablet has it's own sim card for 2G/3G data and calls (not all tablets can make conventional voice calls, but this one can!). Of course if you don't want a second contract or PAYG sim then yes it can tether to a phone for Internet access.

Wondering ... is it possible to route all data through USB to an external wireless connection (e.g. via the car's external aerial) rather than using the Android device's in-built wireless? I ask because I don't like my noodle being radiated by mobile phone / wireless radiation, and because mobile radiation levels in a moving car can be 10 times higher than using the same device just standing still outside the vehicle, and because I get a pain in my ear whenever I use them ... or even stand in a queue and the people in front/behind me are using them.

Thanks - and yes, it probably would be possible... but I am not worried about electromagnetic radiation, so probably won't be exploring this option. If radiation from mobile phones is a serious health issue then I have probably had it :cry: but my understanding is that this stuff is only an issue when held to your head and then it is marginal... That said, opinion seems to vary depending on which paper you read, and which way the wind is blowing.
 
To put it simply, excellent work! I really do love the oem look to it all.

Forgive me if it has been asked before, but how will you be integrating the device with the audio system?

Thanks. It streams music wirelessly using Bluetooth A2DP. Better quality than the 3.5mm jack input, but no reason why you couldn't use that.
 
How are you finding the bluetooth streaming?

And are you using the built in bluetooth or a dension/dice unit?

I use a Dice Mediabridge, and it works really well. There were a few problems initially, but that turned out to be due to "power saving feautures" on Android. With them disabled I haven't had a fault since.

The Dice ably copes with multiple devices too, so if I use the tablet for streaming audio AND have my phone connected at the same time... it automatically switches to the phone and back when it rings / ends respectively.

The only problem I have now is trying to overcome the lack of track info / metadata being sent from the tablet to the headunit. This seems to be because of the version of AVRCP that comes with the stock Huawei ROM. This is fixed in Android 4.3, so it may just be a matter of waiting for that to get released for the Ascend Mate.... but I am sure I can find another solution in the meantime :-).
 
Have you tried a vanilla build of Android?

And I saw mention of steering wheel control which I would assume works for an ipod connected to the dice kit? Does the signal swap straight over too or are there any issues with that?

I had a carpc years ago... it was pants, but i thought it was cool showing off to my mates (when it worked) but this is simply outstanding :bow:

Looks oem and offers carpc potential - well impressed.
