Android Dash Display Screen

How is audio quality on these units? I have read around online and lots of people say it is not very good compared to stock, does this hold true?
It's as good as any other AUX input as that is how the audio gets from the screen to your original headunit. Personally I'm running a later spec headunit and have added in tweeters making it an 8 speaker set up, and for me the audio is spot on, especially considering I have the roof down as often as I can.
So as far as amplification is concerned then it'll be as good as it is now if you plugged your phone into the AUX port.
Hope that helps.

Would have liked to join in on the group buy, but I'm from Sweden. I've seen people commenting on the Youtube video about buying from Aliexpress. What would be the best place to order this from? Is it http://www.a-carnavi.com/pd.jsp?id=91&fbclid=IwAR13Y6X8atbvZXqfbhX6F2WJLauKKtNpf-XVnRWbTSJmkatY-jEAOh7aZNg#_jcp=3_57 ? What would be a decent price to expect for just one unit order? (I ask as they are not listing any price.)

The How-To video is now on-line, sorry but it is 1 hour and 5 minutes long, but then there is a lot of detail.

Dave, do note that there is one missing step in the guide. The keyfob plug cover removal and screw behind it. Almost broke off one of my dashboards holding points because of it.

(The index finger is pointing at where the screw that needs to be removed was.)

I do remember originally talking about this while I was taking that panel out, but it looks like I may have edited it out by mistake.
Yes the lefthand drive cars, for some reason, do have the fixing whereas the righthand cars don't

I don't know how I could have driven for years listening to the radio :) After loading a few hundreds of MP3s on the device, I am being reminded how pleasant higher sound quality is :P

@AnubisZed - Any way to relay some feature requests to the developers?
- I really wish either of the "Media" or the "Radio" button would do something (for my case, with the original iDrive), and that is to switch to the Android audio player.
- It would be nice if the "Previous song" button would actually get back to the previous song when the playlist is set in shuffle mode. It currently just does what the "Next song" button does, switching to a random song, being pretty useless.
- The artist and album are showing as "UNKNOWN" although I checked, and the songs do have the ID3 information.
- It would be nice for the music to start playing automatically when the car is restarted if the music was playing when it was shut off.
- It would be nice if the first option in the menu would be selected by default, instead of having to rotate the button right-left before pressing Enter.

- I really wish either of the "Media" or the "Radio" button would do something (for my case, with the original iDrive), and that is to switch to the Android audio player. It's because it's there for the OEM iDrive integration
Some of mine show all id3 tag info, some show some info some show none, i've checked the info on my PC and it's all there so I've no idea.
- It would be nice for the music to start playing automatically when the car is restarted if the music was playing when it was shut off. Yes this is possible, you need to go into "Settings", "More Settings" (code 1,3,1,4 - OK) then scroll down the left side until "Vehicle Information Settings", then on the "Mode Memory" option turn this to "on". Then if you leave it on an original option (like Music or Bluetooth Music) when you switch off next time you start up it will start from this position. NOTE - This will NOT work for added apps like Carplay, Android Auto, Spotify etc
- It would be nice if the first option in the menu would be selected by default, instead of having to rotate the button right-left before pressing Enter.

Answers are in red, where I haven't answered then there isn't one and I know for almost certain these issuse will not be addressed in the near future, and to be honest I doubt they will. :headbang:

Looks awesome.

Apologies if this has been covered (need my bed, will read all 8 pages tomorrow), but how is the sound quality compared to OEM? Same question about the max volume, is this improved?

Assume the steering wheel controls etc continue working?

Would it support an aftermarket amp in the future?

Thanks in advance.

but how is the sound quality compared to OEM? The same quality as plugging an iPod or phone in, absolutely no difference at all.
Same question about the max volume, is this improved? Improved? Not sure what you mean, no problem with the output volume of the unit

Assume the steering wheel controls etc continue working? Yes, buttons work perfectly with the built-in apps on the unit. Added apps need a short work-around (takes a couple of seconds)

Would it support an aftermarket amp in the future? According to the settings you have the option to use an external amp, although I'm not sure how you'd do this from the screen. All audio goes through the cars stereo anyway, so if you add an amp to that then you are adding an amp to the whole system

Thanks in advance.

Answers in red above, hope that helps.

Think I would consider if they could kept it the same as OEM and allowed the screen to go back into the dash, that would be smart
Someone was looking into modifying one to fit into the OEM pop-up screen, but I think it'll take some modding to get it to work properly, shame really.

For anyone that has one of these units (not the latest batch though as you already have it) and would like the ID7 updated version (software only, not upgraded processor and RAM) then I am now in possession of the upgraded software .....
Full instructions are included within the zip file....
Link removed due to major error in the coding.

This is a visual upgrade only as far as I can tell.
Here is a video of it that AVIN USA have made for one of their units, but it's the same UI...

I try to install this unit in my car over the weekend. My car has iDrive, I could not get the original iDrive to come up it would only display the clock. There are two connections behind the screen one for the lvds connection and the other is a flat 4 wire connector, my question is do you use the flat connection that was plugged into the original screen with this unit? If so can someone tell me where this connection is made? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance.

Have you gone through the settings pages?

Go into Settings and down to "System Info"...

Then click "Factory Setup" and enter 1314" and OK to enter the next screen...

On the first option "BMW Original car CD host settings" make sure that Harman is checked (mine is an Alpine hance that is checked on mine)

Scroll down until you see "BMW Original car video display" and untick this box (again mine is the other way round hence mine is ticked)...

Now you should have access to the original iDrive screens.

Couple funnies on mine, otherwise its great - looking forward to the graphical upgrade above.
Does anyone know the answer to these?
-Time: Resets to 8:30am after an cold engine restart, checked the advance time settings and definitely GMT+1 London
-Reverse Cam: Wired in as per Dave's video, but just get 'no signal' and the parking lines when put in reverse. Is there a setting to enable the camera i'm missing?

thanks
