Android Auto

I have to buy a new phone soon, but since the iphones are getting crazy expensive i'm considering switching to android.

Is anyone using android auto? Does it work wireless like apple carplay, or does it require a cable to be plugged in constantly?
Do you need to pay for an extra option to be able to use it ? or is it the same one as the apple one?

Thanks for the info, and about the same functionality as apple i suppose?

I use Android Auto every day. As said earlier it is wireless. I stream all my music from Tidal and Android Auto has never failed. I have also used Google maps for destinations and all work with voice control from the microphone button. When I want BMW navigation, I say "BMW take me to..." and to use Google navigation it's "Google, take me to...." I have a Galaxy S20, but I have never used Apple Car Play.

it is only wireless on certain Android phones so research that first. I use Google Pixel 4XL and works great for me with solid connection. It's not quite as pretty to look at as Apple capital but the main functionality and apps are there.

+1 for Android Auto. Been using it for a number of years, and can't fault it. No experience of Apple Carplay though, so couldn't vouch that one is better/worse than the other.

Maybe it goes without saying, but if you're changing from one eco system to another, you'll naturally need a few days to get familiar with it, but as long as you accept that that is part of the process, I doubt you'll feel short changed in any way.

Thank you all for the information.

Last phone upgrade i stuck to apple because bmw didnt have android auto, but now it looks like a good alternative :)
