£101 and half an hours work for cruise control is a steal. Fitting the switch and connecting the loom plug took seconds literally, then 25 minutes with hacksaw, file and drill burr to alter the cowl and the jobs done.
A quick test drive on the M60 to check everything's working as it should and I now have cruise control which will certainly be money well spent when me and Mrs J are on our summer road trip to northern Spain and France.
 
Hello Steve, is it as simple as it sounds to have cruise? Do you have to fit anything under bonnet or tinker with an ecu? :o
 
On early pre October 2004 cars yes it is. Slightly more involved post that date and I'm sure someone more experienced with Z4s will tell you what's needed

As long as you have an early E85, then yes it's that easy, actually it's quicker if you have a dremel :thumbsup:

AFAIK you don't need to tinker with the ECU on any of them. The main difference is that early models are pre-wired for fitment, but even for later ones you can buy the section of wiring loom that is needed although it does need soldering in. I'm sure there is a guide in the "How To" section. :thumbsup:
 
Nice job done there. It's one of the many things I intend to do on my car, I may just go and buy that dremel like tool from Lidl in preparation :wink:

How much was the actual stalk if you don't mind me asking? I have a pre-facelift so suspect the loom is already in place.
 
Great mod - and must be satisfying fitting it yourself. As my Zed is a 2008 and therefore not pre-wired for cruise I had it retro-fitted at an indy BMW specialist. You will really notice the difference on long m-way journeys :driving: :thumbsup:
 
Another use for cruise control is speeding ticket avoidance. My town has a long stretch of 40 KMH max limit due to school zones, and it is almost impossible to drive this slowly with a foot resting on the accelerator.

Mine is a Coupe so not pre-wired, but luckily a previous owner fitted it!

Very useful down my way as we have had 50 mph average cameras on the M3 for about 2 years - and 50 in a Z4 would be pretty tricky without cruise. :oops:
 
Cheers gents really was a nice simple worthwhile mod.
As above the part was £101, I could probably have got it much cheaper if I'd remembered one of my Facebook friends was a senior trade sales developer for BMW.
 
Excellent mod and did it about 8 years ago

Perfect for empty motorways and speed controlled zones on them

Only difference now is the switch was less than £50 then
How well BMW adjust pricing to max profit...

Nothing wrong with the Aldi 'Craft' version
Had one for over a decade and never failed me. Got optional 1m flex I drive and a box of 50+ assorted cutters, sanding, wheels, etc was about £15 all-in

For high use or critical tools of course go big brand..
 
Just wanted to say thanks to the OP , ordered the stalk from sopers £100.78 yesterday.
Came today and fitted tonight , needed the kick to get it done so thanks :thumbsup:
