Roof motor failed backend of the summer so decided to get it sorted in November.

Took it to a local independant who confirmed the diagnosis - failed motor. Order a replacement from Joe @ Sopers and the indy fitted it for me. Tried it out a few days later (it was raining when I got the car back) and although the roof went up and down, it was really noisy and slow. Queried this with the indy and he said '...we noticed it was noisy but not slow...'. I showed them how slow it was and they agreed that it wasn't right. They removed everything, checked the install, re-filled with fluid and put it all back together. Their diagnosis - faulty motor. To be fair to the indy, aside from not telling me at the initial install time that it was noisy, they've done all they can.

Now the BMW warranty on the motor includes the fitting even though it wasn't fitted by them.

So, the car is in BMW in MK on Monday to have the roof removed again and the motor sorted. I'm just hoping that the fault is the motor and not the install now otherwise I'm going to be left with a big bill at the end of it.
 
How much did it all cost if you don't mind me asking, I'm dreading the day that mine goes! I keep willing it to go whilst under AUC warranty! ;)
 
The motor was £330 from Joe @ Sopers including the sound proofing.

My indy charged £300 to fit it. When investigating the problem afterwards, even though they removed and re-fitted the roof they only (I say only, but you know what I mean) charged me £150.

When BMW look at it next Monday...I could have a bill of nothing if they find the motor is faulty as the investigation, replacement and putting it all back together is covered by BMW. However, if the motor isn't at fault (the problem is down to the installation or another component) or the fault with the motor has been caused by the indy during fitting then I will have to pay the labour costs for all the work - which could come to £500+. If I end up forking out then I will be looking to recover costs from the indy and I will take him to court if I have to. The indy is confident it is the motor so fingers crossed.

In hindsight, I should have got BMW to fit it as they would have charged me £420 for the labour. However, I thought at the time that saving £120 by going to my local indy was worth saving.
 
probably was and still is worth saving mate, im sure its a faulty motor and all will be sorted soon :thumbsup:
 
Hope you get it all sorted out. I'm also dreading the day mine gives up the ghost! My right hand drain is blocked too so this could speed up any failure. I really need to have another go at clearing it!
 
Well...time for an update.

The roof motor was faulty and it was replaced by BMW with no charge from me - woooohoooooo :D

Whilst they were working on it, they managed to rip the membrane roof lining - booooooooooo :(

Hats off to BMW Wayside in MK for the service they gave me :thumbsup:

dont think there is any chance of any dealers reading this forum, hence why you get such a s**t service from the majority of them !
 
Unlucky mate. Having replaced my own roof motor myself, there's not
much chance of the Indy getting the
fitting wrong. It's a straightforward swap, I did it following a guide
on here. I documented it aswell with quite a few photos if your curious. Can't really see them getting it wrong, more than likely a dodgy new motor.

Except Sytner group who have or had an Exec who monitors relevant Forums for Sytner issues at which point she often pops up :)
