I think you need to up the strength of the tablets. My good lady thinks I am mad changing cars less than every two years. I have had over 70. But I can’t compete with you.😀😀😀

I never liked the coupe version when it came out but the roadster looked nice but not a replacement for the TR6 in my mind. They we’re to early for their time but now look quite good to me. Some say they will start to increase in value. Get one while they are cheap Pondrew :thumbsup: :D

Some also said we would be driving hover cars by now. The TR7 has, unfortunately, been overlooked by the rush for modern 'classic' status. I doubt it will ever be so, but it's not about the money.

If it wasn't for the infamous Unions and labour strikes, the TR7 could have become a really good car. They had big plans for it going forward, but it never happened.

I am a child of the '70s and '80s so a piece of nostalgia as I get older fits the bill. Isn't that the reason why all 'modern classics' become popular, if they survived? The cars your dad never had, or did, and as children coveted.

When I was 8 or 9, my primary school teacher at the time (Mrs Douglas, I'll never forget her name), drove to school in a brown MGB V8. I thought she was a Goddess, just because of the car she drove. Nostalgia; what it's all about for me!

I owned a Mk3 Escort RS Turbo in 1988. I have seen really good examples for sale for £60k. Not because they are good cars, they're not, because people of our age who have the money want to re-live their youth.

Yes both different types of crap for certain, for me there is more chance of finding a half decent x1/9 and I wanted one as a youngster but could never afford one but of all the cars from that era I would still buy an alfa spider or an elan.

Mr Harris was my French teacher and he had an MGB in yellow, he always seemed like a renegade as he was pretty cool for a teacher.

I am also a child of the same era and if I had kept half the cars I had in the 80s I would be worth millions now, every description of Escort (Ford not the other kind Pondy & Scuba), XR3 / XR3i / RS1600i / RS Turbo a couple of XR2s / XR3i Convertible LTD / Capri / Mini Coopers & 1275 GT/ Astra GTE / Elan / Cav SRi / Cav GSI /205 Gti x2 / 306GTi / 306 cab / XR4i / Clio 16V x 2 / Clio Willims / Ren 19 16V / Ren 5 GT Turbo - these are just a few, had about 60 cars in total and would change every 3 or 4 months in fact the longest I have kept a car is an SLK at 24 months, the zed is getting there, its on 22 months right now which is good for me even now
 
The trouble with the TR7 and the TR8 is that they followed the TR6. The design was changed so much from the earlier successful TR series that it was a design disaster. Trying to be modern at the time and getting it wrong. Porsche did a similar thing with the 929, didn't work out for them either. Add the fact that the British car manufacturing at the time was a joke, it was too easy for the Japanese to enter our car market and make people here realise that you don't have to put up with poor workmanship and design. OK the Datsun 120Y was exactly a stunner but it was reliable and relatively rust free.

Remember them being rallied. Roger Clark drove one in RAC Lombard back in late 70s and I remember my mate embarrassing himself trying to keep up with him between stages around Lockerbie / Jedburgh with little success. Sadly your pockets would need to be way deeper but by far and away the best looking rally car from that era had to be the Lancia Stratos. For years I dreamed of buying one until prices went silly.

The TR7 is making quite a comeback in Classic circles I have noticed a few more around at car meets. Give the TR4a and the 6 every time. I love mine with a passion and smile every time I take it out. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Is that maybe because the TR7 is the most 'accessible' of the TRs in terms of money? The early TRs are fetching silly money and a half-decent TR6 will cost £20k and up.

I quite like the GT6, but the looks don't really do it for me. Spitfire hatchback!
 
I was supposed to talk to the chap selling the TR7 on Tuesday, but I still haven't called him.
Not sure whether the car is a good idea TBH. I will have to sell a car, for space if nothing else, and the only one which can be sold is my 440. I will lose approx £7k on it in 4 months which is a bitter pill.

You are right TR4s and TR6s in top notch concourse are 32k upwards now. Mine is valued at 28k but realistically on the market should realise 24k :thumbsup:
