And Introducing..... Another Newbie

Glad you like it. I'm sure, not as much as I do..... :D 8) :driving:

I had to change all 4 tyres as the BMW fitted, new on collection, Bridgestone Potenzas were damaged by pot holes. Getting some speed wobble from 60 on wards, tramlining and a bit sketchy under braking I went into a tyre shop for an inspection. I'd assumed that 8 months of owner ship and some spirited driving (legal of course) might've affected the balancing and tracking. But no, while up on the lift the wheels were spun and the rims were perfectly round, but the tyres were all out of shape with slight wall bulges. I was assured this was quite common on run flat tyres on sports cars as there is little give when crashing into a pot holes. . I wrote to 3 different councils seeking some pittance of compensation with no success. :headbang: It was a long shot TBH. So having to replace all 4 at the same time, I researched a good deal on line with a pre-ordered all in deal. I was intent on staying on run flats for a number of reasons. Main reason I went for the Pirellis was price. All 4 fitted and balanced with tracking for about £510.
The Pirellis are good. No regrets. They also seem a touch less harsh in ride, once I'd got the right pressures in them. The tyre shop over inflated them on fitting. 2.8 bar vs 2.1bar. Any differences in grip, braking, economy are not noticeable. Both tyres averaged about 3.1mpg over my usual 50mile round trip commute. Mostly down the A3 at about 60-70 in traffic. Wet performance is hard to judge as its a long time since driving the Bidgestones in the wet to driving the Pirellis.

Hope that helps.

PS. Being an engineer and former racer, I'm a little pedantic about these details.

Welcome to a fellow Z4 owner and Engineer (I'm Mech Eng), we are not pedant its just our profession that make us precise

Looking at the close up of the alloys, does the Pirelli's offer as much rim protection as the Bridgestone's?

Thanks. Precision and also comprehension of technical matters. Was in a friend's car this summer, she didn't even know it had A/C until I said, "its getting warm, shall we turn it on." In that case, ignorance can't be bliss.

On the tyres, good observation. No, not as much protection, by a few millimetres, but there is some. Will be interested to compare size by size against some Bridgestone Potenzas.

Welcome!
I absolutely love that interior!
Mine is all black and sombre...

Yeah thanks. Having had 3 cars in a row with black leather interiors, I found them uncomfortably hot in the few weeks of bright sunshine we get. Also fancied a change so looked out for other colours. Found out they were pretty rare, which made them even more appealing.
