so for some time I was tracking numerous Boxster Ss for a new car - but a few weeks a ago something made me look at Z4s. Only considering AUC at both Porsche and BMW and struck value of Z4M. Now I know sense might sugggest a 3.0S but... M for midlife crisis.. and would always have regretted not taking brave option. Value compared to Boxster S was profound - OK in UK a bit of a roadtax saving given for same money I was looking at a 2003-4 30K Boxster S with usual rudimentary porsche options (leather and a CD) - on Z4M not only 70 bhp more but less miles and 24-20 months old. Over the piece I reckon servicing will be similar.....so it all made sense (?) Have previously bought (2001) and now running to ground 528i AUC (best exec car ever - autocar) and better the devil you kmow. So attention paid to offerings on Z4Ms

Last week took plunge and now have a AUC 28 month 23K miles Z4M for just a bit over 23K. and in pristine AUC condition. Dealer had done the 1200 miler. Also selling dealer did Inspection 1 for me so now 14K to oil service and 28K and time to save for Inspection 2.

Perfect combo sapphire black and black leather...with DVD Nav, Prof DSP, Bluetooth phone & connected drive & assist, CD stacker (disabled ) for iPod connector, rear PDC, dimming folding morrors, deflector, arse heating seats and a you know what anti-theft system

After lurking for while in run up to purchase only mod I have done in time is ditch the ariel for the mangowalk 3" - recpetion on FM/AM as normal.

Initial observations beyond what a test drive tells - well it is more A road car than B, especially at higher speeds. Gears.... needs a while for warming 1-2 notchyness.... so taking taxi driver approach at lights going 1-3-5 gears, would be nice if 6th were a bit longer for M-way cruising. Will debate clutch valve ..especially when wife trys it out at weekend now that it reverts to our insurance after 7 days free BMW offer I had. (Interestingly on insurance try out the Admiral mulitcar offering .....group 20 for how much .....great I'll take that.)

Will post a picture once I get over bout of bad cold due to children back at school. But hey you can imagine its a black Z4M.......

hopefully I can contribute usefully as the forum was a great source of info in run up to purchase decision.

cheers

p.s. noting all the internet buzz here and elsewhere on current price situation on all cars.... when I was collecting a guy was in dealer looking to a part-ex his cayenne turbo for a new X3 and a high £20ks Z3M van and dealer suggested he'd give him mid 30's for cayenne - BTW it was 2 years old.... the guys face was a picture.....of pain. What is that maybe £2k month depreciation.....ouch - having said that the list on my Z4M and options was 48K so not far off 2k month on that....can anybody be buying new ///M's at the moment?

Hi & Welcome

I think anuyone would be mad to buy new at the moment, but according to my local BMW dealer, they claim they are shifting cars and not noticed any drop at all :?

They were trying to sell me one of the new "limited" edition Z4,s at the time, :!:

thanks for the greetings.

an update....
1. bought myself some cup holders - the bmw ones - need to get them installed though at weekend I now realise guy in parts omitted the screws (that are even mentioned in the accessories booklet).
2. cleaned the garage out so it reside inside at night - partners SLK lived outside

OK on the upgrades a bit pish but given my partners propsensity taking coffee in car a necessary evil.

now getting 23 mpg with 98 ron fuel on a typical 2-3 days driving (city and some thrash) - same as my 528i auto - so happy enough - just more aware of fule emptying due to smaller tank... need to reclaibrate mind.

well demurring to convention here is a photo from today.

after a wash and a bottle of bmw fabric top protector and then application of turtle wax new ice polish and additional application of the other ice product whos names escapes me... I'm not that much a fan of the tyre products but admit look would be improved by glossing up tyres.

impression of ice --- really easy to use .... not really a polish I'd say but a lot easier to work with.

Did the bmw fabric top protector make a good difference?

unbelievably given our summer, it hasn't rained yet.... so jury is out - but you can definitely see a difference to the surface finish of the fabric - before application I used the generic bucket of soapy/foamy car wash that I was about to do body work with and took a small scrubbing brush to the fabric. Then diluted down the BMW stuff in a basin and applied all 2.5l to the fabric ensuring it was applied as per instructions - evenly. I reckon it'll get a soak tomorrow so will report back.

Why Z'ed in garage rather than SLK....?

1. it is newer
2. slk has metal roof

bit of a pain in ass though - up and away this morning at 6:15am so had to a) get slk off driveway, b) get z4 out of garage, c) lock up .....

slk will be up for sale in next few weeks so problems will lessen.
