It occurred to me the other day that the main ‘seat of the pants’ metric which makes a car feel more accelerative is the torque/weight ratio.
So I pulled the stats on the E85 3.0Si, M and E46 M3. Was quite surprised at the result:
3.0Si - 0.181 lbft/kg
Z4M - 0.186 lbft/kg
E46 M3 - 0.167 lbft/kg
Of course, gearing makes a huge difference but was surprised to see the M3 lagging behind the Z4 by some margin, and also how similar the 3.0 is to the M.
