An exhausting problem...

Went over a speed bump that wasn't marked....
Looks like the seal between downtube and main exhaust has popped, just by the cross member. Is there a gasket there? I can only get under it with a low rise trolley jack and cant get right under the fault. I dont want my pants pulled down at the mechanics...

The usual problem there is severe corrosion on the clamping nuts/studs, it can be a nightmare to replace them :(

Thanks Rob, I kinda guessed. The studs are pretty damn fooked by the look of it
I have these replaced on a e46 330 and 2 z4s its not too expensive to have sorted ,its the drill bits you use up to get the old bolts out :)

I dont have the tooling. I cant even get under it reliably....Hopefully the guy I have asked to look at it can be sensible

In answer to your question, Yes there is a gasket. I dont know where you live but I got my joint fixed by \mr \exhaust at \redhill. \did a brilliant job and gave a lifetime warranty. Make sure you get the gasket specific to your zed from BMW otherwise you could end up with a series 3 car gasket which looks and fits the same but has a slightly smaller internal diameter which can marginally affect exhaust flow.
