Just reading on the BBC website about the new american supercomputer, fastest in the world and had to share this...

It is capable of calculating in one hour what otherwise would take 6.7 BILLION people using hand calculators 320 YEARS to complete if they worked non-stop.

Fcuk me - that's amazing. How many calculations it that then ?

That's the sort of computing power that will get us to the stars one day, mark my words. Oh no, wait a minute - we don't have any spacecraft anymore :headbang:

Just read it has 1.5m processors, and...

"A calculation that took three full days to compute on the Thinking Machines in 1993 today can be done in less than one second on the Sequoia," :o

1 hour? If you give me some cake I will tell you the answer straight away

The answer is always 42 :D

Oh, and it can execute over 16,000 instructions per second. Impressive, but still not as fast as SWMBO at full tilt

It's incredible stuff but the benchmark they use is only good for getting on this list

Watch out for a new scientific experiment likely to be in South Africa, the Square Kilometre Array, a massive telescope likely to produce data on the scale of CERN!

Tapatalking...

Yeah, so instead of furthering the bounds of humanity, thy are going to use it to play virtual games with nuclear weapons to extend the life of them. Well done !

You'd need a change of underwear if you knew what some of these big clusters actually do model :o

On the more fun/car side, I've worked with the ones that provide virtual wind tunnels for F1 and other motorsport teams.

It really is amazing the progress we've made. I remember my first PC having 8mb RAM and 500mb hard drive. My new phone has 1gb RAM and 32gb HD!
