An '08 E86 owner just saying "Hi!"

Hello everyone.

I've been lurking for a bit and figured I would come out and introduce myself. This is my Z4, an '08 E86 Sport in Individual Ruby Black with Individual Champagne leather:



I bought it in 2012 with 20k on the clock and with a BMW warranty. It's an auto box with paddle shifters and every option bar folding mirrors and sat nav. I've put about 15k on it in the last 9 years, predominately driving it back/forth to Ireland from London, and have left it standard bar bi-colouring the 108s when I had them refurbished a couple of years back. I had to replace the rear springs and the DSC computer (which corroded after a couple of years on the beach in Bournemouth) but other than that no issues.

At 13 years old, it's need a respray on the front between a number of stone chips, a lorry backing it to it with a low loader that scraped the bonnet (he didn't leave his details ) and some random blobs of cement from some building work near my place in London (yes, seriously) so I'd appreciate any recommendations in/around London if people have any?

Also looking to replace my front kidney grills and potentially fit the BMW carbon spoiler but of two minds on the last one.

I joined two years ago specifically looking for brochure PDFs to see what I might try to get for the car only to realise I have most things already. Just ordered a new BMW carbon spoiler for the coupe from a dealer so hopefully that will materialise. I picked up a strut brace a couple of years back and an original BMW iPod adapter, both from owners taking them off their car. Honestly there really isn't anything else I can think of doing bar getting a stubby aerial.

I am considering order some spares for the car, things that are getting harder to come by and general get knackered. Things like a set of badges, turn indicators, wheel centres, floor mats (though I put BMW rubber ones in when I bought the car so the originals are ok) and maybe the piano black trim. There aren't a lot of specific parts to the coupe (other than the tailgate ) which I can think of worth getting? I have contemplated buying a new set of 108s given they have gone up in price about £200 each over the last few years as I had to refurb mine and I don't expect them to stand up for another 20 years.

My first Coupe was Ruby Black (with Pearl Grey leather) and it looked superb when it was clean and the sun hit it right, but it was hard work keeping it that way!

My 2nd Coupe had 108s that had been refurbed quite recently. I decided to move them on while they were still in good condition and replaced them with a set of 295s from an E89.

Thanks Tidy! The paintwork does look amazing when it is clean and the sun is out, but she’s let herself go during COVID like a lot of us!

Thanks Buzyg, I was nervous as hell getting it done in case it didn’t look good but I kept the outer rim bright silver and I think it works as it breaks the dark red and the dark grey? A bit like the kidney grills.

Welcome from NZ. Lovely looking car and nice touch on the wheels. A testament to the Z4 in that you see it as a “keeper”. I have a roadster but the coupe is a classic.

While I liked the roadster, I wasn’t drawn to it. But when the coupe came out I wanted one bad! Finally managed it a few years later. I occasionally agonise about selling it because it is our third car but every time I get in it I smile and think no. It’s paid off, maybe costs me a £100/month to keep between road tax, insurance, servicing and petrol so I think sod it, cheaper than some other vices!

Indeed, been in Nz for over 30 years now. Do miss certain things about the UK and the options as far as cars go. A Z4 coupe is as rare as hens teeth over here. Most are autos with very few manuals. They are beautiful cars, your one particularly nice.

Ooooo, that sounds nice Scotty! Any pictures? When the car first came out I really liked the idea of the two tone interiors but not many people seem to have ordered them.
