Amplifier question

Does anybody know what these clips do, and if they're essential?

They clip on top of the 5 chips at the top of the board, but I seem to have mislaid one. :D

(not my amp^).

They look like wire fasteners/cable clip, basically just there to stop the wire being yanked off, its hard to tell what they connect to on the board from that angle

See the five ic's towards the top, in their own individual metal bays? They clip on top. This is off a different amp but you get the picture:

Don't want to install with one missing if they're there to ground them or something.

Yeah doesnt look like there are any contacts there and the clip itself is one piece so would complete any circuit it was attached to. Im confident its just there to hold something (probably wires)

hi these are to clamp the power output integrated circuits (the dark grey item) to the larger heat sink of the case. If these are missing and you wind up the power the output chips will overheat and ultimately fail. How quickly this will happen depends upon how much power you draw and things like ambient temperature and airflow
I know because I did the engineering on the first generations of these chips many years ago.

Now that's some expert input  Thank you!

I had just read something about heatsink location and wondered if they might be connected to that.

Will have to scour the house now for the missing one.

Incidentally, this is why I had to tear it down: 5 litres of emulsion all over the battery bay.

Wonder if it will still work? :D

Edit: It works :driving:
