Amp & Speakers Fitted

Spent the day getting new speakers and an amp fitted on Saturday into my Z4. The place that I used was http://www.autoleck.co.uk/ who are based in Eltham.

Fitted a two way component set up front and a set of two way 6x9's in the rear plus a 4 way 300 watt rms amp. All components are Rockford Fosgate. Sound is much, much better than the stock system with plenty of volume. It doesn't have deep down bass, but I knew it wouldn't without fitting a subwoofer of some description. However I'm pleased with the result and the fitting by Autoleck. Basically took the entire day with two of them doing it. Started at 10am and finished at 6pm.

I'd recommend them and of course, they now know their way round the E89.... :D

It' looks like you didn't have the two large speakers behind each seat.........that makes a difference in the first place...an amp is a great idea, but a sub would need to be added if you already have a system above the standard one...but if you appreciate your boot space, subs aren't exactly tiny.....
 
Brave letting them rip the car apart like that :cry:

But good on you for getting it done, I am glad I went for the uprated system as the stock sounds c*** apparently
 
Do you know if they recoded the head unit? I've heard BMW sets some extreme eq. on the head unit to make up for the crap speakers.

There could also be a high pass filter on the rear channels to stop the stock speakers from distortion or destruction. That would be either an inline crossover or a software setting in the head unit. If true, that might explain why you aren't getting enough bass out of the 6x9s
 
Sorry chaps - didn't get any notification emails...I'll take some more pics at the weekend and post up.

I've just added a 10" sub in a box to the system now and all sounds brilliant! At the moment the sub is running at around 30% and I'm letting it bed in before making any fine tuning to the whole system - which Autoleck have also told me to pop back down so they can help. - Well recommended btw, Steve there is a good guy and meticulous when it comes to installations.

Total cost inc fitting has been approximately £1300 - inc the sub that has just been fitted and the mono amp.

No recoding of the head unit has been necessary - I have the Nav Pro system.

Behind seats: Pair of three way Power series 6 x 9's

Front: 5.25 " two way component set

The above powered by a PBR 300.4 (300 Watts RMS Amp) and set to a high pass.

Subwoofer: 10" Rockford Fosgate in an enclosed box - this 'just' and I mean 'just' clears the folding roof and sits in the back portion of the boot.

Amp for Subwoofer; PBR 300.1 (300 watts RMS x 1)

Only thing missing now is a remote lead for the subwoofer to allow me to adjust on the fly - has been ordered and will be fitted shortly.
 
Is this alot better than say going for the professional Hifi,

I have the business upgrade and find it superb, but I am not a massive Audiophile, I like a bit of bass and not to break up and distort which this doesnt

My business upgrade was aboyt £600 and the professional is £900 ish.... so is it £400 better then the pro speakers?
 
Having had the pro in a previous Beemer and having listened to a mate's Z4 with it, I'd saya definite yes, there's no comparison really. I wasn't after deafening levels of sound in the car, just low distortion music.

Having said that, it's a very subjective area when it comes to sound.
