AMP Mounting back panel or battery compartment?

I am installing this amp soon http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/29/182/GM-D8604/page.html

It fits in the space next to the battery so I am considering placing it there. But I am not sure about ventilation is this an issue generally? or should I just install it on the back panel?

All advice very welcome! :)
 
safe from water ingress on that there back panel..

no breathing issues down in the battery well tho
 
should not have any problems in the battery compartment as far far as heat goes. Water ingress (at least in my case) does not seem to be a problem.
 
It will make a cleaner installer next to the battery thats why I am thinking there.

I didn't think water ingress was a problem on the coupe? (or am I been very naive :oops:)
 
Battery compartment, so much neater - wish I had the skills to upgrade mine. Can justify the expense of the parts, or the fitting, but not both lol.

Just be sure to check the state of the boot vents, as this is where boot leaks can come from. Cheap fix, so if you are putting an amp in there could be worth a proactive change out to save tears later.

Thanks for the tip will do this at same time since I have to strip the whole boot out anyway.

Well I am getting the upgrade easy since I am replacing the lot so don't need to worry about compatibility with existing components. Just wish the steering wheel integration would turn up so I can get the head unit fitted! :)
 
Could you drill a hole in the battery compartment to stop water staying in there if you sprung a leak?

Where does the water usually leak in from?

I have just spent some cash sorting my amp out and dont want to risk it being destroyed by water, so i am looking at my options.

I don't know about the coupe, but with the roadster there are a few leak points.


the grommet for the cables is the number one place.
then you've got the rear light gaskets - if they're not forming a solid seal, you'll get water dribbling down into the the two side "depressions" that, when you drive the car, will flow over into the rear central bootspace, and then drain into the well.

you won't notice either of these, as the first is hidden in the well and the second usually soaks under the carpet.


talking with BMW, you could drill a drain hole in the well, but you need to consider driving through puddles etc and avoiding "splash back" into the well....
doable, but needs consideration.
 
Well after stripping down some of the interior last night I did find a leak on the passenger side well. The carpet is only slightly damp and as I tend not to really have stuff in the boot hadn't noticed!!.

Oh well another job on the list lol
 
Thanks to the rain today I found my leak.

Its coming from the top screw that holds the top of the break light fitting in the plastic part above it. I have swapped the screws around and made sure it's tight see if that helps :)

Now to find the other leak I have found on my passenger side lol
