Amount of owners

Hi there,

I'm looking to purchase a E86 Coupe and wondered if you think I should be wary of cars with a high amount of previous owners?

There's one I've seen with 64,000 miles, apparently mint, but 6 previous owners! Are Coupes the type of car that changes hands a lot in their early years before they drop into safer hands do you think?

Thanks for your help

How old is it? Roughly 8 years? That would be roughl;y less than 1 owner per year. High to me would 15 owners or a flag would be 4 owners in a year. People change cars regularly - been there done that or bored or onto the next thing. Wouldn't turn me off.

It's a sports car. People buy them, realize they aren't very practical and sell. My coupe also has 6 owners and I'm not fussed.

Think I'm number five on my coupe... 54,000 miles when I bought it. Not overly concerned as the service history supported the condition of the car and as previously pointed out, these kind of cars do tend to change hands more frequently - the realities of life tend to get in the way of owning something the wrong side of practical!

I'm owner #5 on Red, (74k miles, 2007 E86).

I think what's been said before is right. If it were a eurobox I'd be more concerned, but a zed is a specialist car that folk will run briefly before returning to the more mundane practical.

I used to think a lot of owners was a bad thing, but actually with a sports car you could argue that for each change of ownership the car will have been cherished as a new car and probably have had any niggles sorted out. Obviously the service history is vital, but if that checks out then go for it

Don't see why it should be a problem - the reasons above are all valid. Strictly, I'm the 7th owner of mine but, having checked out the background (write off to DVLA), I'm really owner no. 5. It can be the type of car that does change hands frequently. More of a concern probably if you're only planning on owning it for a short period.

Never thought of it this way. Like your thinking.

Or the other side of the coin ala posh Italian cars sell/trade it in just before the service.

..... yeh, but like I said service history is the first thing to check - if that is solid then number of owners shouldn't be a negative factor.

Thanks for you help guys.

Its a 2007 and seems an otherwise solid car with good history.

is it fair comment that Coupe's are a more steady seller? Or maybe people are a bit too optimistic on selling prices?

Thanks

On the other hand, a one owner car in which the owner neglects the service schedule, scrimps on maintenance and uses it as their mobile skip???
At this stage in their life, always buy on condition, and consider what maybe required to get it to 'your' standard.
Good luck with the search.

There's definitely one 1 owner Z on here that hasn't been mechanically cared for in an orthodox or regular manner
