American Headlights

Dear all,

Does anyone know if there is a difference between american E85 headlights and european ?
I am about to replace my current Xenon headligts with the facelift angel eyes .

I know that the main difference on most headlights is the color on the lenses, Americans have amber turn signals required by law, while In Europe you can have clear signals like the e85 headlights have (both American and European) .
So the by the time the headlights are the same will I face any other problems? Like different plug ?

Thanks

US Headlights have several differences:
First set for LHD so the beam is the wrong way.
Second they do not have the left 'flick' in the beam to illuminate the hedgerow

They also have no adjuster lever lik UK lights to make them work in the EU, so in effect are stuck as LHD units.

Can't recall if there is any wiring differences as all thos I've had were to strip down for parts, but some have extra turn bulbs/side markers fitted

If you're lucky they will pas an MOT.

The guy is located in Greece, so he drives already a LHD.

does this mean you have a prefacelift?

While LHD american to LHD Europe maybe plug and play, prefacelift Xenon to facelift Xenon is not; requires rewiring and recoding.

My current headlights are prefacelift Xenon.
Rewiring and recording will definitely be needed.

PRE-FACELFT WIRING
1. RAIN SENSOR
2. LOW BEAM
3. HIGH BEAM
4. SIDE LIGHT
5. HAZARD
6. HAZARD
7. INDICATOR
8. BI XENON

FACE LIFT
1. RAIN SENSOR
2. LOW BEAM
3. SIDE LIGHT
4.
5. HAZARD
6. HAZARD
7. INDICATOR
8. BI XENON

I just want to make sure that I wont face any other problems in the american version.

Sorry - didn't notice country as no signature showing.

You may well have loom issues as different countries require different functions from the units. Worse case is a bit of internal reworking so long as like for like swap.

The USA headlights don't have side lights (parking lights), there is no bulb where they would normally go.

Andrew.

True, but the appertutes are already moulded in and can be drilled and fitted in minutes.

With any conversion like this issues are inevitable, just how much one is prepared to do.
Personally I've only ever stripped us lights for parts as they are so different.

us headlights can't be used in eu

So what is the conclusion ?
American Bi-Xenon headlights of the facelift E85, E86 will be able to work on a European Greek car or not ?
