Amber Brake light

This was my Dad's car. He passed away last December. The car has been sitting up for about a year. The car starts and runs fine. Brakes seem to work OK but the Brake light remains lit after starting. Turns red when the parking brake is set, so I assume amber indicates a malfunction.

Feedback appreciated.

Welcome aboard.
The amber light is telling you either that the brake fluid is low, or that the pads are worn.
Easy to check the fluid level. If that is ok then take a look at the pads.
The front left and rear right brakes have a wear indicator on them. Apart from being low, it is also quite easy for these indicator wires to come off the pad. If this happens then they can get damaged by the disc, giving a false reading.
Simple job to whip the wheels off and check how much meat is left on the pads.

Thanks for the quick reply. I flew back home this morning, so now the car is back home about 700 miles away. Hope to get back to it soon. I'm a decent shade tree mechanic but BMWs are completely new to me. A brake fluid flush is probably needed. I assume this car uses DOT 3 fluid?
