Amazon Prime - price increase

The try Prime is only a month and then auto extends and charges your CC .... (unless you switch auto extend off in your account).

I agree Kevin, all within reason if its £600 fair enough but if its 5-10% and its something specific I would take advantage of the companies expertise and I could take it back easily then thats worth it.

Like camera kit, lenses sometimes have elements that are slightly out of shape within tolerance but if your camera is in opposite tolerance say between -3 and +3 and your lens is +3 and camera -3 it will make the problem very pronounced and hard to sort, so will need a replacement.

Many people buy grey import equipment but sending it back is a pain in the ass as its half way round the world. Buying from a specialist they will understand and usually swap it for another copy. Try emailing the same info to a foreign country and they have to translate it… That 10% is sometimes worth it.

Also apple is a stupid example as I can only buy Apple products from Apple… You go to Amazon because its cheapest.
Three points:

i: Apple is not a stupid example as you don't have to buy Apple products, if it was a matter of principal you'd shun their products and use something else even if it was less efficient for you - that's part of acting on principal. Yes, the bad publicity has forced Apple to exert pressure on their far-eastern suppliers but they turned a blind eye to it for a long time beforehand because the low-cost operations were enhancing their bottom line at a time they really needed it.

ii: It shouldn't matter if it's in the far-east or closer to home, if it's wrong, it's wrong

iii: Amazon are often far from the cheapest, personally I use them because I work long hours, rarely have time to go shopping, and they reliably deliver things to me at work. I also use a number of other on-line suppliers.

Yep free postage only kicks in if you use it enough or use the other features of prime, personally I prefer Amazon over Ebay. Had some bad experiences with Ebay, and trying to get a phone number to talk to someone there is a bear!

Hmm,

Well I did the free trial through Quidco (£20 thanks!) and now pay £49 for prime and then opted to pay the £30 extra for lovefilm, my son uses it at Uni (avoiding a TV licence), and we all use the prime element for speedy delivery of books etc!

I use lovefilm at home sometimes on two TV's simultaneously (three simultaneous devices are allowed).

I thought it wasn't particularly cheap, but better value than Sky movies for me at least!!

However for some strange reason, as a part of this upgrade they are refunding me £30 (reducing the £70 package to £49) and will again charge me £79 from Feb 2015!

Also, whenever I order something on prime and it's late I will let them know. Every year so far they've given me a free month as compensation.

So it's not all bad in my view.

I'm happy to pay the £49 for a year's worth of next day delivery... I certainly order enough to make it worthwhile, and the convenience of just knowing it'll arrive tomorrow is really good.

However I have found myself increasingly frustrated when using other sites at how slow delivery times are - I mean how long does it really take to dispatch something as simple as a DVD! :headbang:

I would never touch Amazon as they sell goods purporting to be new and is not always the case.

Buyer beware.

Tim.

Of the several hundred purchases I've made from Amazon over the years I've never received anything other than brand new products.

Only really ever had dodgy stuff from Amazon 'Marketplace' sellers, who are not actually Amazon.

The one time I've had something 'sold by' or 'processed by' Amazon themselves that was not 100% it was replaced immediately.

It only takes one purchase to put me of.

I purchased a supposidly brand new HTC One phone it was advertised as such and when received the box had been resealed and and obviously been tampered with. When I tried to do updates it said there was unauthorised software on the phone. Sent it back and received a refund but it took a while. Reading buyers comments on Amazon confirmed I wasn't the only one. I bought directly from HTC after that. I don't really trust their traders or stock is 100%.

Yep, I've had about 18 months for a year so far due to a succession of late deliveries.

I always thought the kindle lending library allowed you to lend a book to a friend, as you'd do with a physical book. Sadly not.

I was looking at this new offer with interest as we have Lovefilm and I would be interested in the kindle library idea, but I can't seem to see if you can get the full range of viewing you get with Lovefilm separately.

I find their delivery times pretty good without using prime so haven't bothered recently

I think i've been quite fortunate in my subscription as mine renewed this month for another year and i wasnt bundled.

Tbh i used the free trial of lovefilm, and netflix for me is much better (as mine is a US account) so im in the same position as the OP if they charged me £79 for Prime i would not renew it.

Quite interesting as an aside that when I change my up with hma to a USA address, I get different series and films in netflix.

I hate it when companies do this. We used to have a family Xbox gold membership for £69.99 a year. In October, without even telling me, they converted it to individual accounts and signed up the master account at £39.99 a year. They gave all accounts 3 months free membership, but the others will need me to set up new payments (there's only one other we use) at £39.99. If I hadn't been trying to gift my son some Microsoft points - now withdrawn, as well as the facility to gift him funds to pay for stuff - I would never have known and his online access would just have stopped. So now I have to have a credit or debit card associated with his account that - in theory - he can simply spend on, though it will be password protected. What a PITA. If I had 3 kids, each with an account, I would now be paying almost £120 a year instead of £69.99 :?

And they did this because ? Well, apparently it is to do with exciting new developments for accounts on Xbox One - which we don't have and probably won't have for quite some time to come :headbang:

It appears commonplace nowadays to take away consumer choice and force the uptake of groups of services at a higher price, whether you will use them or not.

Buy an xbox one.....one gold account attached to console and all accounts have gold membership use like multiplayer etc.

I bought an xbox one off gumtree, the guy kindly left his account on there for me to use the fifa Download, hes gone back to playing his xbox 360. So I have free xbox live for as long as he doesnt sign into another xbox one( said he wasnt going to) or stops his subscription (its got 11mnths left)
Saved me spending £40.

Same gametag can be online xbox 360 and xboz one at same time so if people want to save money and own an xbox one and know someome with a xbox360 then ask to sign their account in on ur xbox one and just use ur other accounts like they have gold membership after that

I've just checked my order history going back to Jan 2013. Of the 61 "Prime" orders since then I had one that was a day late and got an extra month for that.
I'm very happy with the service and have just had notification that my March renewal will be at the same price.

TBH unless you usually need your goods there and then, I don't see the point in having it. I usually go for the free delivery options and my stuff's there in 2-3 days. Kindle library wouldn't be much use to me as have a Kobo ( not compatible ) and the free films ditto as have Sky. Think they are shooting themselves in the foot here, as a lot of people who do use the prime delivery service won't want or even need the rest.

This one of the reasons why when netflix came to the UK i left my account as my usa account... I get films and tv shows sooner that way!
