Amazon Black Friday deals

I've been looking at the Amazon Black Friday deals this evening... there's been some great deals on stuff like Cameras and lenses going on. Not totally sure how it all works though, seems like you have to join a waiting list and redeem some voucher or something!

Anyone picked up any bargains?

Seems like a load of old tosh to me. Everyones jumped on the bandwagon after the media coverage of how successful it has been in the USA.

suppose it's good if a specific product you want is vastly reduced in price, but I bet 90% of people buy things for the sake of them being reduced and not because they actually wanted it.

Most of the ''80% off rrp'' etc is a joke anyway as they're never that price to start with.

I don't know, some of the deals really are quite good... for example the Tamron 10-24 lens. Lowest price anywhere is £349 but Amazon deal was £269. Not a bad saving... Seen quite a few genuine bargains on other products too. I was of the same opinion as you when I went to look, expecting over inflated prices reduced for the sale, but actually was pleasantly surprised.

I got my canon 10-22 lens a few years back on an amazon black Friday special... Think it costme £350 compared to the retail of £500... Even ebay had them Second hand for more.

Add yourself to the waiting list, and then when its available (friday) you get notified and taken to the page to buy it at the special price. I didnt have a voucher... But i guess if you dont use the special link then you just end up on the full price version.

On the dot at 8 this morning the item I was looking was already fully allocated, so am on the wait list.

It's very hard to get the deals, you literally have to click buy as soon as the slot opens up.. the liklihood is that no matter how quickly you click, most of the items will be sold out instantly.

People complain that its a con but I managed to bag the xbox 360 deal for £99 down from £190.

All the reviews on amazon straight after were 1 star with people complaining but its just pot luck...

Some of them are tosh and are purely there to make it seem like there are loads and loads of bargains.

However, I was browsing yesterday and spotted a 'lightning deal' on a P&S camera (Fuji S1) at about £200 - or about 50% off.

My instant thought was that it was either a 3 year old model and the '50% off' was from the original RRP, or that the RRP was never actually that high.

Anyway, using CamelCamelCamel I could track the price changes on Amazon since it was launched (Jan 2014) and found it was selling at £370 until about September.

Had a look around the web and couldn't see it much below £300. So at £200 it seemed a bargain and I grabbed it. Two minutes later and the 'lightning deal' had finished and it was back to it's normal price since of about £280 - so even compared to that price it's still about a 3rd off.

I bought a Karcher Window Vac for a good price on their BF deals.
I cant live without mine I think its a brilliant product. :)

Agree re the Karcher - have one and it's and excellent bit of kit

On topic- regards Black Friday - I tend to buy what I want when I need it and don't go chasing prices on things I might need. There's always a sale, nobody pays retail, etc.

Yes there are some deals to be had on Amazon. I got myself a Denon sound bar/wireless sub that I nearly bighht a few weeks ago full price. Got it almost half price, it sold it within seconds! Currently sat listening to it after prime delivery :-)
