Amazon bargain springs!!!!

Got the car back today, new wishbones, droplinks, springs, braided brake lines and dot 5.1 brake fluid.

Feels like a new car, corners very flat, steering has a nice heavy weight to it again (sport on), brake pedal has a lot more feel to it, can really feel the difference. The ride is a little firmer, bumps at slow speed are fine, rough road at higher speed are a little more pronounced, but it soaks up most roads very well and is still very smooth or nice roads.

There will probably be a little rubbing, looking at the tyres to arch position. I could remove the 12mm spacers at the front which would help, will see how it fairs.

Looking good! heap of things done in one. Have you heard any rubbing from the front or you envisage it with the space available?

You'll be fine :)

Yeah, but how do you know ? Getting a bit Andysat about this now

Perhaps I should spend the £400 to fit springs and get alignment done on a leather dash instead ?

:D
Its good to know my name is used in place of the words fretting/worrying/panicking etc

That looks cracking mate-can i ask where your lone wolf pic was taken?

Gym car park, finished at about 8, light was just dimming, walking back i thought it looked great sat there. Now the oily bits are done, M front and facelift rear next. Had the bumpers tucked behind kitchen table for as long as i can remember

Right... its been a couple weeks since having the springs and front end replaced. I've got a knock that I think is coming from the front o/s.

I've had a good look under and can't see anything loose. It sort of sounds like a drop link / arb knock, but these are both fully intact. (drop links are new)

The only thing that looks off is the o/s front strut. When I jacked the front, I noticed the cover for the strut shaft, the concertina rubber bootr and the inner rubber mounted piece is free to move. I could slide it up and down, but this doesn't look like it could cause a knock. Its the centre part of the strutt here:

I can't narrow down what's making the noise, it can happen on relatively flat and straight roads, however it does make more knocks on rough road, even at low speed. I'm thinking the strut is bad abd allowing the strut to compress to the bump stop?

*I have checked and its not the strut braces in the engine bay, they look tight and show no evidence of movement.

Any thoughts? Its going into the garage for a check on thursday... :(

That's normal the rubber/plastic boot does move freely. Have you checked the top mounts ? Some times they knock, i spray them with silicon. Check the torque on the top mounts too.

Which part do you spray with silicon? Inside the top mount hole within the engine bay?

I'll google the torque setting, but think I saw someone sheer the bolt so would prefer to avoid that. Nothing 'looks' loose, but will check.

Thanks

Worth asking the question! It always hurts when you pay more than they were a month or so ago! :headbang:

Had them fitted for a while now, took it for a 'hunter' alignment, played with spacers and the inside arch position a little and LOVE them! sorry, mine are staying on

Good luck with the search though

LukeMace, have you stuck with 15s front and 20s back ?

In the end yes. I played around with 15 on the rear and none on the front (to get rid of rubbing over harsh dips). Had it tracked with 20 back and 15 front a week or so ago and then took a heat gun to the underside of the wheel arches (plastic) to mould it up a little more. Also tightened up the bumper as it wasnt quite as tight as it should be, and hey presto no more rubbing!

After having the spacers front and back then taking them off for a few weeks, it didnt quite look as nice!! Glad i stuck with it and and had a play around to get it where it is now cos i think it looks LOVELY!! :D

Yeah, now I have mine all on I really don't want to swap them around, take them off... Though still tempted to try 10 or 12 on the front instead of 15. My arch liner is already a bit fecked on one side, so I may need a new one, but I think they are only about £30 on eBay. When I get a mo I will try the heat gun on the other side.

Pleased you are happy - as am I :D

Is yours on the right hand side? Mine ended up a little worse for wear on the right hand side ( i guessed its because of the drivers weight on that side! ) I think that when i have time i will change the liner and mould the new one at the same time. Not bothered at the min though!
They are just great!!! Love the look of it lowered with the spacers! I think anything under 15mm on the front just wont look quite as lovely! Try the heat gun thing. only took 15 mins to do!
