Am I too fussy?

I was viewing a car on eBay with the intention of travelling 3 hours to see it but asked a few questions in advance.

They were as follows:

I have a couple questions re: the X3 please.

1. How long have you owned the vehicle?

2. Partial service history - what history does it have vs what is missing?

3. What issue was resolved to pass the last MOT (fixing the Supplementary Restraint Warning?).

4. Are the tyres all matching brand?

5. Are there any noises/clunks from the rear/transfer box?

6. Do you have the original Sat Nav disc included?

I'm a genuinely interested buyer, willing to travel for the right car.

Thanks in advance.

Here was the reply i got

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the questions, this car might be for you, but on reflection, I really don’t have the time or energy to deal with someone that worries about having matching brand tyres!!

Sorry!

David

By the way - the reason for the question on mixed tyres is that it can cause stress on the transfer boxes on X3s so would be something i would look to rectify if they were not matched.

TBH, seller sounds like a bit of a knob - Can't see any problems with any of those questions.. I take it from his answer that they don't match then

Personally, I would have asked a few more such as, does it come with all of the keys and the likes.

With an attitude like that, no doubt he'll have it "for sale" for a good while - Why not post the link, so we can all ask him some pertinent questions? :D

Mike

All perfectly reasonable and expected questions from a buyer.

Sounds to me like the guys selling a pile of crap and he knows you’ll not buy it on inspection. May well have saved yourself a wasted trip.

One will pop up, best of luck.

What a pleasant man he seems to be.

Like above Mark, he sounds like he knew you'd find other issues with it and it's probably a pile of poop.

Email me the advert and I'll message him too! Haha

Well the front tyres match each other, as do the rears, but pairs are different, and FFS "Fullrun" tyres??

Makes me laugh "full MOT with no advisories" What about the fail 3 days before with airbag and TPMS failures??

Mike

Aah, a member of the Sales Prevention League no doubt. Boggles me people go to the time, effort and money to put the car up for sale, then do their best to dissuade a genuine buyer!

Actually to be fair to the guy it doesn’t look too bad, rare white car, 224’s, roof motor obviously works. Maybe a slight panel gap problem but it could just be that the bonnet isn’t properly shut. Well worth a look imho. Although I still maintain it’s got odd tyres front and back. Still, that can be dealt with.

You wouldn’t want to buy a car from someone as ignorant as that, let him struggle on for another less diligent buyer. I asked about a really well priced pair of new 21” run flat tyres for my X5 on eBay, I enquired if they had the BMW star marking on them. The reply was if you don’t know what you’re buying I’d rather not sell them to you! I suppressed my anger and persevered by educating him about BMW specific tyres before buying them from him in the end. He was local though and it was convenient. I wouldn’t bother doing the same with your guy though OP.

Cheers you lot!

I think he would be better off with Webuyanycar.com!

If you want to know more, his mobile is usually always on

Hopefully a local one will show up.

Sounds to me like the guy has a POS for sale and knows a knowledgeable buyer will see right through him and the vehicle. Best avoided particularly as he doesnt seem to have a clue why you would be looking for matching treads on a 4x4. Or perhaps he does.......

Ive got the same age/model as my daily and upgraded to 20” alloys but bought brand new matching tyres for exactly that reason. When I bought it, the guy had one of the fronts on the back / back on the fronts! :headbang:

Cool! How long have you had it and how’s it been?

I’m looking specifically @ a 2006 because the engine got updated in 2007 to the model that likes to slacken it’s own timing chain! :fuelfire:

Mines a 2005 3.0d, absolutely love it. It’s such a great allround car, really is quick and handles great. Interior is a bit dated but I quite like the simplicity tbh although I’ve got a parrot fitted. Leather seats are really good quality and the boot is huge.

Only issue I’ve had out of the ordinary is the turbo. Had a recon fitted for £650 and (touch wood) been fine since last July.

Im always looking at cars and the one problem is finding something as good that isnt £10k plus more expensive. Mines done 120,000 but you would never know!

What a spectacular bell end. Sounds like he knows it's a dog and anyone going into detail, isn't going to be fooled.
