Am i nuts? salvage content?

Hi,
sorry to stray into z89 land from humble world of e85...
I am contemplating an upgrade to something a bit newer and have been looking at a boxster or the like but then came across
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-10-BMW-Z4-sDrive35i-3-0i-Blue-/301713012919?hash=item463f7f38b7
now I was thinking that realistically this might be a cheap way to moderner motoring, if I was to go for an upgrade I would want to spend less than £10k..... what do people think of this car? is it doable for less than a kings ransom? I am not looking to sell it for a profit so I don't mind the lack of resale value I just wondered if people had any thoughts?
Cheers

Sit tight mate, £10k E89s (6cyl under 80k ) will be along any time now :o certainly in the next 3 months . Already seen under £11k cars prior to this summer
They won't be 3.5s but you are\less likely to lose your shirt & your wallet
Seriously doubt you'd straighten that out for anything close to £2500

Mate you're not nuts. Doing the work yourself can really keep the cost down.
The big problem with that car is the air bags have gone off. You need a complete air bag kit and that gets expensive. I've also been told that you need a new ecu when the air bags have gone off. You also need seat belt tensioners.
Walk away from that one mate.

A good website to look at accident damaged cars is http://www.copart.co.uk

see I was reading about you can reflash ecu to reset them. but thanks for the advice!

That's had it...

Proper amount of damage that..

I would have said you have between £1400-£2000 in bits second hand...

The 2 Mr Wilks have listed are nice cars... Smaller engines ones are cheaper, as are the ones with less spec but £10k is a bargain to get into an E89..

I would also worry about what damage has been done to the complicated roof mechanism on shunted E89s - even though that rear swipe doesn't look much

Wow - seriously mangled to even attempt so sell it as a Cat D. Would need £000's just in parts when you start to add in airbags, panels, wheels, suspension and all the other bent bits under the bonnet. I also suspect if the boot would shut it would be shut, so probably a bit twisted.

Urgh, even the inside looks worn terribly irrespective of the accident damage.

OP, yes you are nuts as that car looks like its fit for one thing - crushing!

However, it's your time & money & I for one would be interested to follow a thread of the rebuild in progress, in much the same way as I watched with interest the rebuild of a black Z4MR - SimSimma's car I think.

That car has had quite the kiss on the cheek hasn't it.

I think the seller is asking for too much. If the car was salvaged for parts the only thing I see that's worth taking out would be the dash trim that everyone seems to want to wrap/paint over :D Also bear in mind that just because you have a perfectly fine part doesn't mean it's worth something because it might be a part that nobody ever needs.

If it was a 2013+ with less than 15k mileage then perhaps it might make sense but it isn't anything near that. Even after fully repairing it the Cat D label is always going to massively affect the resale value.
