I've had big problems with Pigeon poo damaging the paint on my newly acquired Z4 (3 months).
I bought a polishing machine, repaired the damage myself twice which several hours work.
Applied sealant and I am now vigilant cleaning any more droppings ASAP.

Now this is really serious! I've just gone to my car and the windscreen and bonnet are covered in paw marks.
No not the local cat, FOXES! At least I presume it was foxes, unless it was someone's dog!

They've clearly been skidding and sliding around on it and it is covered in deep scratches, not cats.
This is SO frustrating. The bird poo was bad enough but this real damage.
Sure I can spend another afternoon with the polisher working on most of the bonnet, more compound and sealant/wax but what happens tonight? Tomorrow?
Besides, these are deep scratches. If I can rub them down, I'm going to lose a lot of clear coat, if they indeed are not so deep to have gone through to the paint anyway.
This is not a job I can do more than once or twice before I'm through the paint itself anyway.

I despair, this will ruin a nice looking car. Having spent a considerable amount on a vehicle in immaculate condition this is depressing and financially it would be prudent to get rid of it before it becomes devalued by the local wildlife!

What's the answer? A car cover I have to apply and remove every single day?
I don't know if it's possible to wind up the alarm movement sensitivity? It might get rid of them once they jumped onto the car but it's likely to be triggering with passing vehicles and extreme weather.

Besides standing in a bush religiously with a water pistol, there isn't much else you can do.

You can buy things that emit a very high pitched sound that only animals can hear, but I'm unsure how effective these are with regards to foxes. I know they work on cats because my old neighbour had them in his garden and my cats wouldn't go into it.
 
There was a period of time when i had cats sitting on the roof of my 911 and using it as a scratching post. Then the same moggy slid down the bonnet of my Z4M with its claws out..

The owner of the cat bought me a "scatmat",basically a low voltage mat that runs on batteries that you can lay on the place the cat likes,it soon stays away after getting tingly feet a few times.
 
i reckon a cover is the best option.
a pain to keep removing i agree, but better than regular scratches. i would not be amused either. :x
 
I feel your pain. Cats are the bane of my life in this respect.
The only problem is the bloody cats concerned are actually mine! :headbang:

Male urine is known to deter foxes. They see it as another fox’s territory.

It’s up to you how you apply it (not to the car but to the surroundings).
 
HA HA. Love the clips! They did make up for my bad mood.

But it didn't end there.....

It turned into a bad car day.
I went out initially to move the Z4 and park my Sabre out front so I could work on it. I'm selling it.
Before I got to the Sabre, I was completely distracted by the fox damage and took to cleaning the paw marks off the Z4.
After posting my first grumble about the scratches.......

I then went out, got in and reversed the Z4 into the bloody kerb! We have a deceptive slight curve to our road and no matter how often it catches us out....it still catches us out. Yes, I kerbed the rear alloy! To add to my mood.

But wait, there's more.
I parked the Sabre outside the house and drove the Z4 to Halfords to buy some leather/upholstery cleaner to spruce up the Sabre's interior before I put it on the market. I came out of Halfords and someone had scraped the offside bumper!
Of course, there was no one to be seen and no car next to me with a matching scrape.

I have now cleaned the Sabre up and come indoors. Leaving the resulst of my trip to Halfords for tomorrow.

As for the Foxes......that spring bonnet is exactly what I need!

TBH I don't know what to do about the foxes, they have been over most of the cars in the area last night, there must have been a lot of them. Thing is, the paintwork on the other cars has paw marks but they don't appear scratched.
Is BMW Black/Clearcoat particularly vulnerable?
 
I Googled Fox deterrents. There's a few options but bearing in mind it's in the street, I can't leave a radio on or set up a sonic/infra red device. The spray deterrents, "Skoot" or even pee are no going to be very effective on the pavement, the road. Our road is heavily parked and I can end up many houses away.

I now have visions of myself and my neighbours taking a leak around their cars.....

I'll wait and see what happens tonight.
 
I decant it from an old milk bottle, splash it on the path and walls once a fortnight.

It seems to work as the foxes seem to crap around here, and that stinks 😷

Either that or an air rifle!
 
Sorry to read your tale of woe OP - it's so annoying when things like that happen to our cherished Z4s. :cry:

That's the problem when the car has to live outdoors, as mine does too - so far I've been lucky.
 
I can understand your pain :(

I am still getting problems with a local fat black cat which thinks it's ok to piss and s**t on my driveway and cars. Last year the bastard scratched and ripped the soft-top. It seems as if it fights another cat, as I hear them both hissing and growling sometimes at night. It still comes around and there has been new scratches recently.

Need to do something about this...

If the "wildlife" is causing that much damage to your paintwork , a car cover would not last 5 minutes until it was all torn up. I've just done a lot of research on car covers and trust me they're not designed for that kind of abuse. That said , as I was looking around to purchase one for longterm outdoor winter protection I came across several companies that produce "tent" covers for cars. They seem quite sturdy and you literally drive your car in to it and zip it up. They're not too expensive either . £3-500 maybe even cheaper in some cases. I believe this maybe an effective solution to your problem (?) :wink:

About 20 years ago I was building a garage at my house, and had a pile of sand out front.

My mate said curry powder would be a good idea, so I tried that - definitely less cr*p near my doorstep!

Lion dung! but I guess it defeats the object of the exercise if you have to cover the car in it and could be a tad dangerous to collect! :o
