Am I missing Top Mounts nuts ?

Hi

I had my wheel alignment adjusted and I've just noticed I seem to be missing a couple of nuts. The left hand side nut is now a alen key bolt and the right hand side is missing completely.
I know they had to move the top mounts to help the adjustment. The missing nut hole is not lined up so you couldn't put a nut there at all (obviously the adjustment was so much they have left the nut off as it wouldn't fit.

I'm concerned that the strength is weakens now.

What do you think ?

Thanks Rob

Yes - that missing alen key bolt is your camber "pin" bolt.
If this is removed then your allignment will be out of wach.

People remove these in order to increase camber during alignment

Thanks for the replies.

So there should definitely be a Allen key bolt there ?

Should I kick up a fuss and get them to drill a hole so the Allen key bolt can be fitted ?

They will need to adjust the camber/alignment manually to get a pin back in, they shouldn't be drilling another hole as that one is in the position it should be. If it was there before and is not now then they need to be putting it right for you.

As an aside, doesn't it drive horribly, as the front wheels will be totally out of line with each other won't they ?

It drives fine. It was all out before and they did say they had to move the top mount to get the right setting.

Just spoke to my BMW Indy and he says the Allen key bolt is put there to show the factory setting. Its perfectly fine to remove the bolt. In fact he has done it many times on BMW race cars to set them up correctly.

Correct - but must be removed from BOTH sides and then alignment setup!

Mine has both missing. Had alignment before I bought it ... Drives fine, I've done 20k miles with totally even tyre wear.

I would suggest that the car has had a knock in the past which is why one side has had the camber pin removed.

It may have had a knock in the past but the pin has only now been removed.

Yes, to correct the problem with the alignment.

Hi Rob,

As a matter of interest, where did you get the alignment done (And would you recommend them)? - I'm pretty local to you and need to get my alingment checked after replacing TCA bushes and springs etc.

Cheers.

I took it to MK tyres in Leighton Buzzard.
It took around 2 hours to do all 4 wheels and then had to have a seized ball joint replaced as well.
They seem to know what they were doing but I'm sure there's more specialised wheel alignment locally.

The car does seem to be more settled on the road now.

Hi,

Thanks for that, there's these fella's local http://www.jpswheelalignmentcentre.co.uk/, tried to get in contact a couple of times without any success :| . But the website would indicate that they know what they are at, If you would like a second opinion - But I'm sure what the others are saying is correct - Those pins are only alingment guides during assembley, and wouldn't guarantee correct alingment for all cars (Just an aprox setting).
