Am I going mad

I have been hugely humbled by the response from everyone on this forum, but especially by enuff_zeds offer to drive 6 hours here and back from Norfolk and GenZeds offer of a free grill. Very, very kind, but I don't feel comfortable accepting freebies and I understand the problem with the plastic pins snapping off. So as my bumper needs a bit of it respraying, £200.00 when I last asked, it would make more sense to wait for a complete one to come up in Sterling grey in good condition in the hope that it wont be too expensive, although they are on eBay, then have ago at fitting it myself, it can't be any worse than those annoying window things I did. My wife has also made it plain that I will not be allowed to sell the car as it gives me too much pleasure and I will soon "get over it"! I have contemplated filling the holes and painting them black, it's worth a try. :) Mike:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This is a horrible story in terms of trust in a garage, and you have every right to be furious. That said, it's just plastic.... pretty sure with some filler, sandpaper and possibly some paint you could make it perfect in an afternoon.

This pic shows it was drilled on the car…from the inside face ..so why would/ could the Garage change it ….mysterious🫣

Yes it beats me but it def is not the one that was on the car when I bought it. It looks old and there is old wax in the moulding, I have always been careful not to do this. I have a receipt showing that grumpy owl bought a new one about 30,000 miles ago, it was a nice black colour. And that gouge in the bumper near the hole is new. Unless some nutter made it look old and then drilled a load of hoes in it:headbang:The other thing that is strange is that the fixings around the wheel arch are all there?

Is there room to drill it from the rear and if so can it be removed and replaced from underneath. The internet says no!

I've got a big tin of Upol 'plastic filler' sitting in my garage if you want it Mike. It's like filler, only for plastic! I will happily send it to Devon (wherever that is) for nowt.
I could even throw in some multi-grit sandpaper in the box. And a mask. :)

I don't have any colour matched paint , though. I've got s**t-loads of Ferrari rosso 312 if that's any use? ;)

Thank you Pondrew, I have plastic filler but have you got enough Ferrari rosso to spray my entire car :) (y)

The more I think about this the more the whole thing of removing the bumper to swap out the grill seems ludicrous and overly complicated. What if some horrible little twat sat down in front of the car with a battery drill and drilled a load of holes for a laugh? If the drill bit got hot enough as it was pulled out it might drag some of the plastic with it leaving a small lip on the outside. It doesn't explain the old grey look of it though. And why on earth would anyone want to do that, they'd have to be bloody mental.

They didn't.
The garage swapped it, for whatever reason (presumably because they damaged it when drilling something else).

Don't start over-thinking it, or it will drive YOU mental.

4 years outdoors does. I've a feeling those parts will be polypropylene (PP) or HDPE which aren't as UV stable as ABS but better at resisting impact damage, especially important with the open mesh sections, and cheaper to make.

@MikeyH what have the garage or garage owner said about the issue?
The garage owner has looked at the car and said several times that "I wouldn't do that for a couple of quid" each time I told him that they don't cost a couple of quid, the receipt I have is for £63.00. I made it clear to him that I was NOT after his money, I just wanted to know what had happened to the car in the 8 hours he had it. He was calm and respectful and didn't get nasty but denied that it would not have happened at his garage. Basically he new I wasn't going to get anywhere and couldn't prove anything. (n)I have calmed down a bit now and will not leave the car anywhere on it's own for more than a couple of hours. Something I remembered last night was leaving the car to visit a customer and a house 2 doors down was having wall insulation pumped in, it was very noisy. Was wondering if the guy doing it thought to himself, look at that twat in the suit in the nice car and drilled some holes. I will try filling and painting the holes and see how I get on with it before major works and expense. No matter how much I like the car and how great I think it is, in the real world it is not worth the money or the stress.

Really sorry to hear what’s happened but I do think you are becoming a little paranoid, don’t let this spoil your enjoyment of the car, I’m sure you will get it repaired one way or another.
