Am I getting paranoid ?

Still suffering from withdrawal symptons after selling my 3.0i roadster ( serves me right I hear you say ! ) I've considered several new toys including a 350z and a TT quattro but I keep ending up comparing against the zed - ie speed /mpg / tax / looks and there is really little comparison. Never thought I could be swayed but I'm seriously considering a Z4Coupe. There are definite advantages ie no roof motor issues , I could leave it on the drive ( much easier to just jump in and drive.) We've had a garage in all the houses we've owned in the past but until the zed and previously Lotus I've never bothered to put the car away other than when we're away on holiday and every car we.ve had always looked good even after many years of ownership in some cases. The one thing that I seem to be getting paranoid about is the rust issue on the boot lid having read the threads on the forum. If I splashed out a whole bundle of cash only to discover the dreaded bubbles after a few months would really pee me off. Am I being stupid and OTT ?

Z4 Coupe def the way to go :) Just need to find a good one! 8)

I wouldn't worry as it should be covered under the paint/bodywork warranty, and it was only light/surface rust.

i'm getting paranoid, keep reading about all the issues people have with their cars and i'm just waiting for something to break :o but that all disappears when i drive it :) i've come to the conclusion that if it happens, sort it, if not then all's good

Have you tried a 350Z? I preferred mine to the Z4. If i were to get another Z it would be a 350Z roadster. Only downside was mpg. I've just bought a 111S Elise for my fun car.

Quite liked the 350z in the coupe form ( thought it looked better than the roadster version ) but the newer and better version ( 2006 onwards ) is £470 tax band - and IMO looks a bit chavvy . Absolutely loved the Lotus ( M100 ) - was a modern classic that held its value and was very exclusive - sold it for the same money I paid for it after 3 years ownership. Wouldn't mind going down the Lotus line again but I'm freakishly tall at 6'7" ( but not a fat bastard I might add ) so the only model that I could relatively fit in would be something like an Evora ( silly money ! ) Like the look of the Elise but I would end up looking rediculous ( even more than I already do ) if I could manage to get in one.

Yeah my 350Z was a facelift 300 GT so £465 to tax. Coupe does look better but top down driving just makes it feel a little more special. Could be a tight fit for an Elise but worth trying.

Yeah i think you are a bit paranoid Gov .
why not set out to view at least 5 coupes specifically looking at the rust issue that concern's you
i would be surprised if you find 1 out of the 5 needing attention .
mine is 2006 90k covered & paintwork is in excellent order in all areas ( barring the front under bumper scuffing) certainly no sign of rust anywhere

enjoy searching but doubt you would get to the fifth without buying  you,l be smitten with the curves long before then

good advice, the boot issue shouldnt be an issue. In the current climate, I'd be checking for damp footwells instead (door membrane issues) :[
