Am I being unreasonable & anyone live near Bradford?

Contacted a seller on EBay selling a set of genuine 405m winters.

Listing clearly stated - collection only, but I asked the seller if he would courier using Paisley freight.

Seller replied with ‘I’d consider that if you paid the asking price plus £60 to cover courier and packaging.

I tried to make an offer in excess of the buy it now price, in including the additional £60… but EBay won’t let you do that, so I made an offer just under the asking price and added a message to say I’d pay the extra as agreed but EBay wouldn’t allow an offer on this basis.

Seller ignored me for hours, and the number of watchers increased, so I used buy it now and sent a further note saying per earlier message I’d pay the extra £60 and no rush, happy to wait until after Christmas.

Now had a bit of a grumpy message from the seller saying ‘I only said I’d consider posting, someone half an hour away was going to pay near to asking and collect but now I’ve got to sort couriers!’

I’ve replied politely saying, from my perspective what was I supposed to do, wait for you to sell them to someone else and miss out?

So, do you think I’ve been unreasonable in my actions?

And, does anyone live near Bradford that could collect these and wrap them for me (if it comes to that)? Not expecting this for free, of course, but I know it’s a friendly forum and thought it was at least worth an ask.

I know what you’re saying, but he could easily have said no politely and not even bothered to check Paisley freight for himself.

I felt like he was using me as a backstop ‘if all else fails’ which is fine if he’d been honest and stated that. He was clearly responding to others and didn’t reply to me for ages. :?

As they had stated in the listing collection only, you can't really blame them if it suits them for another buyer to pick up. A bit frustrating for you, a lot less hassle for them.

No you’re not being unreasonable, I agree with Rob he’s maybe using you as a backup/default buyer. He’ll get his money before Xmas, you’ll get the wheels mid January.

To summarise MOST people selling stuff just now, especially cars, are plain and simple @RSEHOLES!!!!

I’m trying to buy a car for my young fella’s 17th, the responses are staggering.

Two standouts

Me: “Can you please give me details of Service History and has the cambelt been changed?”

Response “Why don’t you f@@k off and look at cars you can afford!!!”

Me “ Can you please tell me if the car has Full Service History/cambelt change, and how many keys does it have?”

Response “Your just a time waster asking me all them questions don’t bother wastin ma time asking any questions, I’ve got genuine buyers interested”

I’ve put a request in Shiply for 4 unwrapped alloys with tires that need careful transportation… cost not too bad, so suggesting to seller we go down that route and I sort and accept responsibility. He doesn’t really have to do anything then… fingers crossed.

And just WOW on the car buying stuff… you really can’t make it up, so much for peace and goodwill to all men (women and they/them)

Had a car bought for pick up 2 weeks ago, 6 hrs by public transport, garage owner picked us up from the train. On the way back to the garage, flicker of red light, then again pulling onto the forecourt, suddenly dropped the oil pressure. No oil on cam or lobes when I checked. Oil pump went south I think. Garage owner immediately pulled the deal when I explained issue 10 minutes later and I’d have been on my way home. Timing in my favour for once. Wee man was gutted right enough though. He was 17 the day before. As said trying to find a replacement is testing my, ATM not so great, patience

Rob, yours was quicker because I could fly down from Glasgow. Same initial start but then 3:30 hrs to this one as opposed to 1:15 hr flight to you :lol: the trip home you win.

Thank god he came and picked us up in the car we were buying. That extra 15/20 miles brought the fault up, if we’d driven it away it would maybe have taken longer to appear. Had driven it 20+ miles on a test drive 2 weeks before and it was faultless so definitely not the dealer trying to pull a fast one.

Shiply is a broker platform, the courier who has quoted is a car parts specialist and it was £68 including insurance. Clearly more than Paisley Freight at £42, but they take hi res photo’s on collection and wrap the wheels (other car parts) themselves before loading.

I wouldn’t normally consider paying this much for wheels to be couriered, but they were a very good price compared to other genuine 405M’s so it’s worth it to me as I’ve wanted a set for ages.

In addition, they have loads of excellent feedback and move things likes bonnets, hardtops etc on a regular basis. They go under the name of Carpartsspecialist on Shiply.

I’ll feedback when it’s all done as I hate wrapping wheels for couriers, so if I was sending wheels I rather pay a bit more and avoid all the hassle if they’re good

Thanks …after my last experience of wrapping full tyre / wheel sets I certainly won’t be doing any more sales on that basis…took me about 3 hours and £12 of tape..fortunately we had plenty of cardboard..

I used Shipley for my Jeep dock to home transport…that worked out well.

Ahh just seen Bristol was there on Tuesday stayed at Gloucester ibis afterwards I go that route a lot ...generally go spain working but do a lot in uk ....I’m on 07976855137 Carl

Yorkshire man with a van on Facebook....hopefully that’s not seen as an advert as I’m sure it’s not allowed I’m just answering a cry for help...I do jobs very occasionally for shiply and anyvan and if I’m a customer I would checking out the transporter often Eastern European which is fine if they do the job right but communication and timescales can be a problem, also a lot of load swapping in lay-bys etc and items get damaged and go missing although it sounds like the ones you have chatted to might be competent...personally I would blanket wrap them job done safe as houses.

Thanks for getting in touch, but courier all booked and paid for now. The wheels themselves were very well priced, so not worried that the transport costs are a Few quid higher than others on this occasion.

These guys have excellent feedback, and their communication has been brilliant so far… we’ll see how it works out.

The wheels themselves are satin black, so if I don’t like the black on black look I’ll whip them up to Birmingham for a colour change
