Am I being too optimistic?

OK, so my search for a Z has begun, which will hopefully lead to a purchase this summer, or more realistically, January 2012. :driving:

I have set out some specs that i would really want for my budget, which is £15k or less, but my searches so far have only produced 1 car that matches most of the criteria.

They are as follows:

2006-2008
up to 40,000 miles
Coupe
3.0 Si Sport
Manual
Silver or grey preferably

Spec:
Xenon headlights
Multi Function steering wheel
Cruise control
Nav
Climate control
Black or silver trim
Heated sports seats
Rear parking sensors
108 alloys

Do you guys think that would be an achieveable spec for the budget? :?

I think for that spec which is the same as my car i just bought a few weeks ago you will need around £16000. all the ones under £16000 were higher mileage.

Mine was 29000miles,
3.0si Coupe,
nav,
Black Leather electric memory Mseats,
Heated seats,
cruise control,
multi function M steering wheel,
Bluetooth,
108 alloys,
M suspension
Xeneon lights
auto lights and wipers
for £16,000

There was a Black coupe with red/black M seats every option except TV and 48000miles, for £15000.

Heres one I looked at and took for a test drive but decided against it as my wife has a grey car.
The leather seats are a BMW individual colour and look really good in the flesh. The dash is piano black not the walnut as in the ad. It has all the options you wanted. It drives excellent too.

This one meets some of your specs apart form the colour and alloys. and its under your budget so it alloys you to change the alloys

You'll find a decent priced one sooner or later.

Around 1 month a go I got mine for £13600.

07 3.0 coupe
28k
FBMWSH
Folding mirrors, bluetooth, auto lights, 108's, mfsw, electric memory and heated seats, rear PDC, sun protection glass.

Decent options apart from nav and xenons and cruise.

So if you add on retro costs for adding them: cruise < £100, xenons <£500, nav <£500. I'd say £15k is very reasonable.

Just be patient and one will come along took me six months to find mine and i got the car i wanted plus more

From what i've seen satnav puts on around £1000 to the Z4 coupes.
I've been looking at Z4 coupes since christmas.

I'd like to know where you can retrofit satnav for £500 as i have been looking for my wifes 120D and its £350 for the CID, £250 for the screen, £350-£400 for the Mk4 nav unit. Then you have the problem of the wiring loom which is no longer available from BMW so you will have to make your own one up out of a X3 or X5 one for around £80. All from ebay or other sellers. You can't but the complete retrofit kit from BMW anymore.

Yeah i found that Phoenix yellow one last night, it's really nice and the wheels would be an easy swap. I actually quite like the colour!

Guess it's just about patience and waiting for the right one to come along at the right time.

Retrofit Sat Nav is £500-600 and many on here have done it for that including me, although as you say the loom is an issue now but only £30 more than the Z4 one.

No way you can retrofit Xenons for £500 though, the headlights are £700 each from memory.

I completely agree you wouldn't get those parts fitted if buying parts from dealers. I was really meaning watching out on ebay + ebay.de . I've seen a few non tango xenon headlights go for around £150 while I was searching for a car. Admittedly I have no idea how much the level sensors are from a dealer - I'd guess around £100? Can reprogram your existing LCM or again I've seen a few ones on ebay in the past for ~£100 - pretty rare with both fog light switches though.

All in my opinion mind you, only going by what I've seen :)

I think you would have to be bloody luck to do it for that price, don't forget post facelifts have different headlights. To do it properly you would really need to change the LCM to remove the adjuster. I wouldn't mind betting the adjusters will be more than £100 bearing in mind one is at the rear and need to be connected through to the LCM and sods law says the loom won't exist on non xenon cars.

Sat nav and cruise can be done easily if parts available, but I would say if you want Xenons then make sure the car has them, and make sure they are OEM. But as above only my opinion.

Turns out I was being a little optimistic! Maybe not with my spec but with my finances!

Anyways, i had located the perfect Z in Yorkshire, perfect colour, low miles, top spec and everything checked out but before i could get a loan sorted it was sold

So it was back to drawing board and then something else caught my eye, a 6 series!

So on Tuesday i went and picked it up in England and made the journey home.

So happy, it's a great car! Maybe i'll own a Z4 some day but for now this will have to do :D

You need to improve your searching skills.... :poke:

To your spec and within budget:

Just need 108's although I prefer the current ones:
