Am I being thick?

Just been out for a quick noon in the Z (e85 3.0)and I was trying to reset the clock as it had reset itself after a flat battery. When I held down the left button on the dash for about 30 seconds, "test" came up with a number from 1-3. What is this for? Never seen this before? Thanks
 
Would if I had one!! Only have the service books, that is was I was asking! but thanks for your help ..... Will check the web for the answers or another forum :(
 
Hopefully I can contribute something a tad more helpful than everyone else :roll:

The button you were pressing is actually the service interval display button. If you press and hold it - I believe - you initiate secret squirrel BMW functions that allow the service interval to be reset to whichever is the next service. Even if I'm wrong, that's not how you reset the clock. If you have satnav it's dead easy as it's under 'set up' in the menu. If you don't then this will probably help : linky

It is the US owners manual for facelift Zs, but for something like setting the clock I'd expect it is exactly the same as Euro models, pre or post-facelift.

Many thanks Bing. I have managed to find some of the details on the bimmer forums now so have some more insight, will follow the linky to reset the clock ...... Appreciated :D
 
Must be the 5 minutes of sun that's affected the helpfulness of everyone

Cycle the computer on the stalk until it comes round to clock, with engine running, press button on the left until display starts to flash & adjust by left / right buttons.

Took me a little time to work out 1st part & as for those menus, for our display does some diagnostics like this, press image to play

That's just rude! People mention a lot how friendly this form is, however I disagree! I have read a lot of comments that's just scream 'tosser'. If you can't help with an answer to someone's questions don't reply

All of the information required to answer the question is available via google. Therefore I stand by it, lazy.
