Aluminum Pedals on 35i DCT

Hi Guy's,

This is going to sound crazy but this is what BMW are telling me. I thought I'd treat myself to some nice Aluminum pedals for my 35i as shown in the accessory brochure but when I phoned up to order them I was told they are not available for the 35i. Apparently when the parts department tried to find the part number the computer says NO. Further investigation turns out that if you have the DCT then you can't have them, apparently the accelerator pedal is different, can you believe that!
I tried two different dealers and both said the same thing. Their only advice was to try AC Schnitzer or maybe 3D Design, yer right, have you seen their prices :headbang:

Thats interesting. I'll check this out with BMW when I take my car in tomorrow, for another potential problem. I did cross check the part number here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=LM72&mospid=51403&btnr=35_0275&hg=35&fg=95&hl=13 but I just got confused as some of the parts in the diagram showed them as being discontinued.

Edit, Been looking at the above link a bit more in detail and it looks like the rubber bits classed as repair kit are discontinued, if I'm reading thing right :?

Edit again. Heres the email from my dealer :I have checked with our parts department who have said unfortunately this cannot be fitted to your vehicle, as it has Sports Gearbox with Twin Clutch. :headbang:

So, you can have the sport gearbox but not the sporty pedals :thumbsdown:

The BMW accessories website shows the pedals for an auto - from the links above the part number you need is 35 00 0 304 643, I'd just ask your dealer what part they think that number is, and then take it from there. The part does state that it will fit the DCT.

It still doesn't make sense to me, whats a gearbox got to do with it? I suppose I'll have to forget that idea but I really want to know why :headbang: Perhaps the clue is in the option S2TCA code against my car.

Being an engineer, both electronic and mechanical I really want to know why this is not possible, it can't be that difficult! I suppose the only other thing I can do is call BMW UK myself and ask, at least that way somebody may be able to pout me out of my misery :D

The only other thing to do, if I really want some nice pedals, is look at the AC Schnitzer or 3D design but they are a little to expensive, but nice :thumbsup:

I don't know if this helps but... I installed Hartge's aluminimum pedals while ago, and their cover for the automatic gas pedal was size-wise a perfect match, but there was no way to drill through the pedal and use the supplied allen key bolts (two holes in the middle of the cover). I ended up using two small (I think 3mm) self tapping steel screws to attach it and it has been fine since -- the plastic is quite hard and they attached well.

I wouldn't know how RHD would be different, and according to pictures (which I wouldn't trust) there would be four holes in the corners. It just might be that positioning of the holes is not good for the pedal. But why the pedal would be different from automatics, that I don't know.

Thanks for your responses to this issue. I did get another email from the parts manager today which went into more detail of why they are not available for the Zed DCT. He believes it because of a different accelerator pedal is fitted when you have the S2TCA gearbox. He checked other models with the same option and there are aluminum pedals available for these, just not for the Zed though, strange but true.

Anyway, the BMW ones are a no go.

Superbow, I had looked at lease as well but wasn't sure. How long did it take you to fit and was there any issues with hole positions or fixing screws lengths Etc? Also, did you get a fixing template in the kit or did you have to line them up by eye?

Tot, have you got any pictures of your setup. I looked for the Hartge's variant over here but couldn't see them, unless I was looking in the wrong place :D

I had this picture lying around. I know, I know, the dead pedal looks quite badly fitting in this picture, but that is mostly due to the angle and using flash. In real life it looks nice and "lighter" than bigger aluminium pedal and you won't see the plastic even though you know it's there. When I got the set I was "oh crap, do I have to look for something else", but I decided to install that anyway to see how it goes.

Looks good mate. I've just emailed Hartge for a price so I can compare with the M Style variant superbow fitted. By the way, why couldn't drill through and align the holes for the Hartge?

I took the gas pedal off the car to see if it could be done, but decided against it. That was over a year ago and I can't remember exactly what, but I think the bolts were maybe too short and on the back-side of the pedal was the metal plate that gives the kick-down feedback (as you can see the holes on the aluminium are on the middle).

Took about 15 - 20mins

No issues with fitting, took the accelerator off to fit the plate on it.

No fixing template.
 
One thing to consider in fitting is that the brake pedal is hard metal. A good drill bit and a small drill are helpful to get the right angle and holes done in a reasonable time.
 
Just out of interest i bought a hartge pedal set for the 35i manual, 2 years ago now, when it arrived it didn't fit the 35i as the pedals were a different size to the previous z4 model.
I did order a set from BMW and my dealership said they were hard to get hold of.
Aluminium pedal set does look good though. Nice pics :thumbsup:
