AluFelgen CSL Replicas

Hi all,

I'm considering a set of these wheels for my M Coupe but am completely confused as to offsets and tyre sizes.

I'm sure most of you are asking why am I considering putting a replica on an M?? Because I'm in Ireland and there aren't an abundance of used OEM CSL wheels. I would hate to buy a set unseen from the UK and have them arrive only to find they are damaged or not quite round. I've done quite alot of research into replicas and these appear to be one of the best around, they are low-pressure cast and weigh very little more than an OEM wheel.

As I understand it the M Coupe has the same rear axle as the M3 hence the OEM CSLs are a direct fitment. I believe the sizes on these are 8.5x19 ET44 and 9.5x19 ET27 with a 235 tyre on the front and a 265 on the rear.

I've spoken to AluFelgen and they are offering the following sizes -

Front:
19x8.5 ET 15mm
19x8.5 ET 35mm

Rear:
19x9.5 ET 20mm
19x9.5 ET 35mm

Neither of which really match. So what should I be going for?

Secondly they are recommending a 275 tyre on the rear...will this be detrimental to handling or potentially cause rubbing issues?

Sorry for all the questions! :)

Thanks in advance.

Imolazed,

Can't help you with the offset info but these wheels look great. Where is the firm based and do they have a website?

The rims sizes for CSL's is as follows:

Front 8.5 X 19 ET 44
Rear 9.5 X 10 ET 27

Suggested Tire Size
Front 235/35-19
Rear 265/30-19

I can't recall that anyone running a 275/30-19 had rubbing issues.

Hope this helps.

For the fronts you want the 19x8.5 ET 35mm wheels. With these your wheels protrude 9mm more than they would with genuine CSL's which I think you'll get away with no problem. You will have 9mm more clearance on the inside.

For the rears you want the 19x9.5 ET 20mm. These will protrude 7mm more than and give you 7mm more clearance at the strut side, again which I think you'll get away with.

The 275 rears aren't going to cause rubbing but I would caution against them personally. I changed from 265/30/19 rears to 275/30/19 and found the high speed stability of the car suffered quite badly. It felt very twitchy even in a straight line so I took them off and sold them. Once I went back to 265/30 the car was back to its normal self. They were Michelin PS2's for your information. My fronts are 235/35/19 and the car drives brilliantly on that combination. I know others have run 275's and not reported any problems but that's my experience.

Hi Alan

They are based in the states, I believe Florida. They quoted me $1099 for a set delivered to my nearest airport, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

Website is http://www.alufelgenco.com but I think it's either broken or doesn't like my computer as the pages don't load any content. I found them on a raft of american BMW sites, E46Fanatics, E90Post etc etc.

Like you say I think the wheels look fantastic, they seem to have alot of concavity like the OEM wheels...which I like :)
