Alternator?

For the last 2 weeks or so, when I start the car the yellow battery light has been coming on. At first I figured it was just the temperature changes Ive been having over here, 65F during the day, maybe 30-40F at night. Never happened before so now I think my voltage regulator might be starting to go... does any one have any other ideas?

Also, anyone have experience removing the alternator/ replacing regulator? I think i might do my belts at the same time...

thanks...

The battery light is red.

Not changed the alternator on the Z4 but done it on my X5 and it's identical. It's not an easy task unless you are reasonable at mechanics as you have to remove a lot to get to it then belt tensioners, etc.

I wouldn't change it until it's been tested by an electrician. In the UK OEM is £550 and aftermarket around £200 supply only

I had a strange one a couple of weeks ago. My red battery light came on. When I had the fault code read, it said that the alternator was not recognised. It logged this fault twice and then decided that it did recognise it after all. There has been no problem since. Have you had the fault code read?
