Alternator worries

Another small update: I have ordered a replacement regulator as they can be had for not that much money compared to a new alternator. For reference, the Z4M alternator is Valeo part number TG15C098 and the voltage regulator is Valeo part number 593873. This is different to the number stamped on the regulator itself.

Did you change your regulator yet? If you have done it, any other things than fixing the charge problem, like another behavior in driving?

No, I haven't done it yet - the part is coming from the US. I'll update this thread when I do

Just a quick comment to say that the replacement regulator arrived and has been fitted. The fault has been rectified; no more light on the dash and no more fault code in the DME! Great result and much cheaper than a new alternator!

Really useful thread, thanks to the OP for posting the part numbers  I’ve just ordered myself a new voltage regulator hoping it’ll sort a 005DF7 fault code Carly has picked up.

I’ve had various DSC faults light up for a split second after already replacing a rear wheel speed sensor. I’m now down to to just the one fault code mentioned above. Found one from Valeo (eBay) for £48.

Both good suggestions so I will give them a try also.

My concern is that if I do diagnose it to be a fault with the regulator that the regulator is not listed as a separate part for the Z4M. Only the complete alternator/regulator assembly. I'm trying to see if I can find any info from Bosch as to the regulator used inside the Z4M unit..

Update:
I gave the belt a visual this morning and its condition still looks very good. The battery indicator light didn't come on this morning but I checked the alternator output after startup and it was a very healthy 14.6V. Voltage drop between the alternator body and the jump start earth contact was only 50mV.

I have replaced the regulator on the Z4M last week, my symptom was overcharge to 17V in a warm afternoon but it never happen again...but to place safe before going track day I have it replaced. Fyi it is a Valeo product, fit perfectly.
